I need some new tights. The thicker the better! No control top - aka - torture device.

Post links of your favorites! TIA!

Nordstrom Sweater Love tights - warm and comfortable! I also have some Hue tights that are nice.

My favorite tights from past seasons have been from Banana Republic. I know that there were many choices of color and texture and even wool blend in Oct 2010 when I last stocked up. I saw a few choices in the store when I was there last month. The web site only shows 2 choices now and they are look more "sheer" than warm.

Probably not worthy of posting but I am wearing some Merona ones from Target today. Just got them yesterday so no idea how they'll hold up. But, they are soft, comfortable and seem like fine tights.

I have been pleases with my Ann Taylor Loft tights. I bought them last year and been mean to them (washer and dryer :)) but they are still good!

I've never tried Merona tights. Had not thought of it! That's not a bad idea since I go through so many. I wonder how they hold up. I currently use Hue and DKNY ones. This one particular DKNY pair is my fave because it is totally loose and comfortable on top, but I have not been able to find that style again. Hue tights are fine, but I was wondering whether I should branch out.

FYI I've seen lots of Hue at TjMaxx/Marshalls lately. I think Nordstrom Rack, too. (They are blending together. ;))

Both my Merona tights ran badly after the first wear. The first pair I wore to mass, the second to a baby shower. So I wasn't exactly rough housing. They were $10, so they weren't even all that cheap. YMMV of course.

Consider the source here (not a tights expert!) but this pair http://vip.zappos.com/cole-haan-chevron-cotton-tights-black
that I got to wear with a plain berry-colored dress and with shorts is really nice IMO. They have cotton and they feel warmish to me. It's hard to see the pattern though. It still looks really nice and probably is what keeps them warmer, but if you are looking for a really noticeable pattern, you might be disappointed. They seem like they will hold up though, and I have washed them a few times already.

I like the ones from Assets at Target.

I got a couple pairs of Merona ones last year but they didn't fit exactly right and the waistband rolled down, so I'm not going to buy them again.

Of course, I have a generous lower body, so that might be the issue!

I also just ordered those fleece-lined ones (more like leggings I think) and I will let you know how they turn out!
I am going to be the warmest Californian in existence. ;)

can you link them non VIP Zappos or name them? I'm not a VIP member so I can never see links when you post them. :)

Here you go!
Didn't even realize I was being exclusionary! ;)

You can actually see the pattern a bit better here anyway.

I just got back from American Apparel (where I went to buy the winter leggings recommended by Scriptkitten in the sorrel boot thread) and of course I checked out tights while I was there. These tights look amazingly cozy and warm.

The Cole Haan ones stay up but they were not digging into my tummy, the band was lined or something.

Here are the ones I got from ShopBop with the fleece (scriptkitten rec)

I wanted the footed ones but some of the reviews I read said that they ran short and I thought the footless would work better with my height.

Mine are Hanes, but they are very control top. Without them, most pairs feel like they are falling down.

I agree the tights are expensive but honestly I think you would have them forever.
