Here's a really good article on how to safeguard mobile devices (iPhones, iPads, Droids) so that kids can't easily stumble upon graphic/mature/explicit content. Particularly interesting are the alternatives to the installed browsers. These browsers filter content.

Before I gave DD her iPAD, I removed Safari and YouTube and loaded Mobicip and Gube. We also have other apps with kid-safe educational content, so she barely goes on the internet through Mobicip. She LOVES Gube, though. It's kid-safe YouTube. I've checked out tons of their videos and haven't seen anything inappropriate yet. I also just loaded Rover, which gives her kid websites that use Flash Player. And I disabled her Messaging. Hopefully, I covered every loophole!

Neat article! I've heard of K9 from some families who have it for their home computers, and they really like it. Cool to know of the app for mobiles. Now, if I could only get it to work on certain scrolling text in a certain museum ;) . . .
