View Full Version : Any seamstresses? How hard is it to make a hat?

Not me. I'm not sewing. That's a disaster. But I am thinking of having a special top made for dd for her birthday. I used this Etsy seller last year for her birthday outfit and it was beautiful and very well made. I was thinking about trying to coordinate a sunhat too, but wasn't sure how hard they are to make. . . . There are other Etsy sellers who make them so it must be not too, too hard, right?

Just thought I'd ask you all to get an idea of whether it even makes to sense to approach her.

Thanks!
Catherine

a floppy, bucket-type or cloche-type sun hat isn't hard - a sewer should be able to do one. a big picture hat might be tough, with all the stiffening - i don't know if that's special stuff or just lots of interfacing. anyway, i'd say it's worth asking.

A floppy sun hat shouldn't be too daunting for an experienced seamstress.

Bucket hats are pretty simple. Just be sure to measure around your DD's head so you can request the right size.
