A zany zoo activity cube is good for that age. A few gertie balls would probably go over well. At that age my kid loved chasing a half empty water bottle around the floor--either well supervised or a kleen kanteen so the lid isn't a choking hazard.

The leap frog music table was a huge favorite with both my kids at that age. You can probably find it used in good shape, they are very popular and hold up well.

Lots of things to do on this one. Very highly rated. See if you can find it on craigslist or something, as it's a pretty penny

You can take off the legs for a baby who's not cruising yet, and then when the baby learns to hold things and stand, she will still be able to use it and love it. Lots of songs and music, and five learning modes.

I second this. My DS is almost two and still plays with his just about every day. And anytime we have kids over, it gets played with by all ages.

FWIW, we bought ours new and paid pretty much full price, and I still think it was worth it, but if you find it somewhere used, jump on it, b/c is really does hold up well.

I totally agree that it's worth the full price, simply because of how much, and how long it gets played with

This is what it looks like, BTW

Also, we got this one for Christmas, and it's a huge hit for some reason.

Quart sized yogurt tubs. One that had slits cut in the top so he could drop things in and pull things out - playsilks are especially good (any thin/silky scarf would work). Another with the lid taped on and various "junk" inside like baby food jar lids. As he got a little older I had one without tape and he could pry the lid off.

The Learning home was fun at that age for DS2. I picked ours up like new on CL for 20 bucks. Learning tables are also pretty common on CL or at consignment sales and shops if you don't mind 2nd hand.

Haba ball track roll n'roll is a fun toy

stacking and nesting toys

sturdy push toy (RF walker wagon and Haba walker wagon are both really nice).
