We use fans and I'd rather have a white noise machine, I imagine they use less electricity. Can anybody recommend a good one?

I'm looking for one for ME- sadly, I'm addicted to white noise for sleep and with all my other sleep problems... I'm not trying to break the habit!

Also one for Sprog. We use one for her because her bedroom is right off the kitchen. That's the only way we can clank dishes around cooking or cleaning up during her nap or after bedtime.

I need one with good volume, about equivalent to a louder fan. Are there any where you can adjust the volume? Thanks!

We have these Marpac (http://www.amazon.com/Marpac-SleepMate-980A-Electro-Mechanical-Conditioner/dp/B000KUHFGM) ones. We have both the single speed and the dual speed ones. They are really awesome and pretty loud. Both allow for some sound customization, but the dual speed more so. The Amazon reviews are awesome (and numerous) and I believe I originally learned about them right here on BBB, so they've got the coveted BBB seal of approval as well. :wink2: I know they are sort of pricey but definitely very much worth it. We couldn't live without them!

We use a conair one. The noise is a little less natural then a fan or marpac I think, but we've been happy. It has volume control, and we keep ours LOUD for DS. i am starting to slowly turn it lower, but it can get pretty loud.

Marpac, the dual speed ones. We have three of them and they are awesome. We even take them when we travel (though they will search your bags when they see them in there...they have no idea what they are!).

:yeahthat: Exactly. We have Marpac dual speed machines, and they last forever. They are also invaluable for travel. Noisy hotel rooms are so much less of a concern.

We use a cheapy $20 Homedics Sound Spa from BBB. We've had it for 5yrs and used it with both DDs. It has volume control, several auto off functions (turn off at 15 min or 60 min or stay on all night), it has several different sounds (we use waterfall which is like static), and best of all it can be used with batteries for travel. We've taken it to hotels, camping, etc and it's small and portable. We really love it and can't beat the $20 cost.

We use noise machines here too, but I don't like the droning sound of a fan. We prefer music (spa-like music) so I got one for our room, and one for the girl's rooms (they bunk together in the same room). It has been awesome for everyone, and we all sleep better since I have gotten them. Both of ours stay on 24 hours a day and we have never had issues with either one. We travel with them as well. I got our from Amazon.

We don't use it as a clock as DH uses his phone as an alarm. And he's my alarm. http://www.amazon.com/Sound-Oasis-S-650-01-Therapy-System/dp/B002WGHKQW/ref=sr_1_1?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1327414663&sr=1-1

We have the Sharper Image Sound Soother clock radio for DD and love love love it! it is going strong after 8 years. i got my niece the travel version hen she was born, and it's going strong for her baby sister after 6 years. DH also has the travel soother (he takes when he travels, or we use it in our room if the neighbors are loud). it's also working great after 8+ years.

We have a Homedics one that we take everywhere. The exact model is discontinued but I wanted to give that brand our vote of confidence.

We've used it hours daily (naps + overnight) for 2 years and taken it back and forth across the country x 7-8 big trips and it has held up very well through road trips and airline baggage handlers.

I also let Ds2 play with the buttons now to change the sounds so its fairly toddler proof too, I'd say.

We've been using one conair for roughly 15 hours a day or more for the last 2 years- it's been fine, plenty loud, and was only around $30 I think- we just bought the $15 one for DD big girls room- only difference I can see is that is doesn't have a clock. can't beat the deal.
