I need book recommendations (for me)--where are the threads?

I'm looking for some book recommendations (for me), but am having trouble turning up recent discussions. Can anyone link or bump those threads for me?

I read a variety of books, but I don't want anything too heavy (The book Thief) or emotionally charged (Jodi Picult).
I like action books/ mysteries, suspense and some urban fantasy (Kim Harrison).

We are taking a trip soon and I need to load up my Kindle! :)
