Spring is coming and I don't want to spend another season this way. I have an outdoor problem spot and need ideas.

My house is white brick. We have some great homey gardens all around the back yard (our style is kind of rustic, with edibles mixed in and some mature trees.) Unfortunately, our backyard seating area is oriented so that you're surrounded by garden, but facing the house. So, you're staring at a blank, ugly white brick wall. Oh, not totally empty...there's a round electric meter mounted half way up. And a dryer vent.

Without going into too much detail, it is impossible to re-orient the seating. I'd just like to do something great to that wall. I'm looking for links to interesting products...or some interesting DIY projects (something to hang or something to build). That wall gets very hot, so potted plants fry.

Thoughts?

We have an awful wall along our front deck that we've made a trellis with grape arbor above & it now has grape vines and wisteria trailing over the whole thing. I'm thinking of this summer making it do double duty and growing some container plants/vines for cooking. Our garden is a trek from the house, so it would be nice to have some salad essentials on the deck.

How about a large wall fountain with maybe some metal artwork on either side? These are cute? (http://pinterest.com/pin/103371753916507423/) Maybe some kind of pergola to get a little more shade and then you could use plants as well.

Vines! I think vines would look great on the brick wall. You could put a couple of big potted plants in front of the vines to add layers of greenery.

Loving these ideas!

We have tried growing things there before but, as I said, they fried. But it just dawned on me: that was before we installed a hose spiggot right on that wall! Now we have a water source right there vs 30 feet away around the house corner. Maybe we can keep something alive...

sorry haven't checked out the previous responses, but i think a succulent garden would work. i've seen wire type gardens that the succulents hang onto, but since you have a brick wall, how about something like this? it uses cinder blocks but with a very interesting arrangement.

That's funny. I've got that pinned and I almost linked to that picture too but wasn't sure how well they would do where the OP is. It could be really fun especially if painted cheery colors.

I like the idea of a fountain. You could even make a trellis as a backdrop for the fountain.
