Just wanted to update because you all were so kind and your positivity was a huge boost to my family since I posted this last week. My mom had her dr. appt yesterday-- her bone marrow extraction was clean, so she is still considered in "remission" for purposes of continuing with her consolidation chemo. They're going to wait, as her numbers are creeping up very slowly, but are creeping up, as her dr. will not put her back in for more chemo while she's so weak. Her dr. told my parents that it would be a mistake to put her in while she's so weak and tired, and that it won't mess things up, so to speak, if she needs a few more weeks to rebound.

Thanks again for all of your positive thoughts. She still has a long road ahead of her, but had become convinced that she was going to get bad news yesterday. I think now that she knows that she's got things to hope for, she'll go back to being the incredible fighter she's been my whole life.

I would just really appreciate any PT you've got floating around for my mom. She's due to go back into the hospital for her third round of consolidation chemotherapy as part of her leukemia treatment, and she's so, so tired and weak and has been slow to rebound from her second round. She had her most recent bone marrow extraction yesterday, so that will dictate how things go and confirm whether her treatment is continuing to be effective. She has a host of unrelated medical issues that make this whole thing a delicate balancing act, as well...and she's only 61. I would be truly grateful for any positive thoughts you could send her way.

I don't mind. :) Acute myeloid. ETA: My mother is lucky, in one regard, which is that it was discovered very, very early. She had a low grade fever for about a day and a half, didn't feel "right," and went to our family doctor. In light of her other health issues, he sent her for bloodwork, even though she really presented with any serious symptoms of anything. Obviously, when the bloodwork came back, he sent her immediately to the hospital.

That is so scary:( There was some recent data on a gentuzumab-ozogamacin drug combo that produced clinically significant improvements in patients with favorable-risk cytogenetics (and only in patients with favorable-risk cytogenetics). Getting drugs approved for treating AML is kind of a b*tch. I'm sure her docs are on top of it all...I'm hoping for the best for your mom.
