I know you can stream shows with a Roku box, but what if you want to watch stuff like the local news or a sporting event such as the Superbowl this weekend? Is that even possible with a Roku, or is it shows only?

Thanks in advance!

Roku streams via the web, so if you wanted to watch a show, sporting event or news cast that was simulcasted via the internet, you would buy or sign up for that "channel" to watch it.

We maintain a basic cable package in order to watch Primetime shows and local news. I am big on watching our local news every morning and none of ours simulcast.

I'm not sure but we just use $12 rabbit ears for the basic channels like you're talking about. :)

Nope. We kept a basic comcast package so DH could watch live sports.
