Awww, @ 15 mos, it's nice to see some of her other videos about EN....I feel like I'm in another world b/c none of my mommy friends are hanging there with me. I like that she's crunchy w/out looking like she stepped out of a 70s hippie time warp. LOL

DBF and I watched this last night and were laughing so hard! My favorites were the $20 maple syrup (which is what we pay on Amazon with subscribe & save!!!!) and the coconut oil comment (I was all excited when I saw that TJ's started carrying coconut oil recently)! Too funny!

I thought it was very funny and got most of it.

I'm going to analyze all the humor out of it and ask about the coconut oil thing: was the coconut oil meant to be just an example of a crunchy mom roaming the grocery aisles looking for a somewhat esoteric item, perhaps not even aware that it was esoteric to the rest of the world? Or was coconut chosen for the video specifically because it is specifically popular in crunchy circles? I've heard of it being used for homemade formula (don't ask) and gluten-free baking, but I didn't think that the crunchy world was abuzz with coconut oil talk.

bump for my question about coconut oil in this video

I was at Trader Joe's today and saw coconut oil with a big "NEW!" sign and thought, "What is going on with coconut oil?" Someone enlighten me!

One reason CO is popular is the lauric acid content. It is also pretty stable at higher heat. (eta: it is also made up of medium chain fatty acids which some feel are beneficial).

It has been popular with women in India and of Indian decent for use in hair for a long time. I use it to wash my face, take off makeup, it makes a decent personal lubricant, works well as an all over moisturizer (I also use it on my face after cleansing with it and pat it in as a moisturizer) and it works pretty well for getting suncreen off of kids :ROTFLMAO: Quite useful LOL.

A lot of paleo folks are really into coconut oil which has popularized it even more.

oh heck yeah, coconut oil rocks our crunchy world :tongue5:
I have over a gallon of it altogether in my pantry right now, & cook with it daily.

One of my favorite brands, that is often on sale for $11 for the two tubs:

So funny daisymommy!!! I have the exact same giant coconut oils in my pantry right now!
I use coconut oil (and dried coconut) in the homemade low-carb cereal that I make! Taste so good!

I use coconut oil for skin irritations mostly. And, today I was using it as diaper ointment. And, I may up my crunchy a notch and buy a amber teething necklace for my now teething E.

Cute! Anyone notice that she was buying grade B maple syrup for $19 I just had to laugh at that. I paid $16 for Grade A Vermont syrup at Costco.

So does coconut oil make your food taste like coconuts? Silly I know, but I can't stand the taste of coconut.

Different brands and types are more coconutty or less coconutty. Nutiva virgin CO definitely lends a mild coconut taste, but it works great in things like baked goods, for example. You can also buy more refined varieties that have less coconut flavor and scent.

Grade B is preferred for baking by many for its stronger/darker maple flavor. We go out of our way to buy Grade B for baking (at Trader Joes usually) and we buy the grade A at Costco for pancakes etc.

As Kijip said, with syrup, Grade A has nothing to do with being first quality, and Grade B second best. It's all about how robust, deep, and "maple-y" the flavor is. I think it has to do when it was pressed. But there are many gourmet maple aficionados that only prefer the rich taste of Grade B syrup.

We only buy grade B. It's a stronger deeper flavor. The one I buy on Amazon is $20 a bottle when using subscribe & save and I have it come every 3 months.

We usually buy the Grade B maple syrup from Trader Joes the one in the big glass bottle. At first the flavor seemed strong to me. Now we all like it.

.

Not sure what you mean but many people think that Grade B is better tasting than Grade A so Grade B is often more expensive. It is counterintuitive, I know.
