Please help this tired mama find a pillow. About 8 months ago I got rid of all of our down bedding. Long story short I became very sick very suddenly. I couldn't breathe through my nose almost at all...it was a nightmare that I want to forget...I went to many doctors and no one really ever figured it out. (strangely enough one thing I can't stop thinking about is that a couple of days prior I got a whooping cough vaccine. Dd was newborn and my brain wasnt working. But I digress..)
In the quest of trying to eliminate what was casing the sudden sinus nightmare I got rid of all down, and we bought a latex mattress and pillows, and a silk filled comforter. I LOVED my down pillow so much. It was the higher end Ikea one, and was super squishable and smushable. Latex can't be smushed that way of course...I sort of knew it all along that I wasn't comfortable at night but with a new baby that just wasn't at the top of the list. Well now I realize I can't take it anymore. I wake up with discomfort and sometimes pain in my neck and I think that in turn causes headaches too which I'm prone to. Add to that the fact that I cosleep and nurse dd in bed obviously..I often have to lie on my side until I can roll away from her and I swear it's becoming unbearable because I cannot get over not being able to smush my pillow to shape it the way I feel like at the moment.
What can I try? What do you use? I wouldn't mind down alternative if it was very very close to how down feels-is there suh a thing? What about memory foam? For some reason it always creeped me out but I'm desperate. Thanks in advance.

there are some really good down alternatives out there. I would go to maybe a Bed Bath and Beyond store and give some pillows a squeeze... heck I'd try em out on the floor if needed.

I love down, I loathe memory foam. I've tried and tried because various people have told me how awesome they are. Ugh, they just aren't for me! Its is a waaaaaay different feel and one I just cannot deal with.

So, from my sample of one, you probably are better off skipping memory foam!

There are some good down alternatives. I bought a pair from Costco. I had high hopes in the store, but when at home, they were too flat. I ended up cutting them open and transferring about half the filling from one into the other. :)

I have a real Tempurpedic and ds1 has a cheap Target memory foam pillow. I tried his pillow and there is no doubt that the Tempurpedic is better. So, all memory foam is not the same. I've been using it for 12+ years and am :)

I have a latex mattress that I just loved. I have always slept with a down pillow and loved how they could be squished. I tried a latex pillow from Bed Bath and Beyond and hated it. Then I went to the Savvy rest Store and bought one of their shredded latex pillows and sleep like a log. You can customize the pillow by taking out some of the latex to make it feel like you want it to. Since having this pillow I don't even turn over at night. I warn you though it is not squishy, but I don't miss that part.
