Deals/recs on a vacuum cleaner?

don't know about deals, but i :heartbeat: our Dyson Animal (i don't remember the model number). we've had it for almost 5 years now. that thing is so much better than any other vacuum cleaner i've ever had.

If you want to suddenly start loving vacuuming your house, get a Miele. Seriously, cleaning our floors is a delight because of our little machine. An local independent shop helped me figure out which one was right for our space, and the investment has paid off a million times over.

Ours bit the dust last week. A Dyson was not in our budget, so I went with a Hoover Windtunnel from Costco for $99. My favorite feature is the retractable cord.

I did not want to pay $700 for a Miele so I got a Dyson DC-14 All Floors kit in 2007 and love it, and we have almost all hardwood in our house too. My vacuum was $450 I think and since I bought it at Costco I got extra stuff. I love the hard floor, and low floor tool. Great for underneath the couch.

Thanks for the recs, ladies! I read some old threads and discovered the Shark Navigator which was a little closer to where I wanted to be budget-wise. We'll see how it goes.

I put a Dyson on layaway but while I was still paying it off my Bissell died and I bought a Kirby G5 (circa 1998) off of Craigslist for $75. I took it home, cleaned it up, put a new bag in it and vacuumed every fiber of dust, dirt, and dog hair out of our carpet, lol! I finished paying off the Dyson and brought it home to try it out (and keep the Kirby for a back up or for upstairs vacuum) and I was so ticked off and disappointed. It barely left vacuum lines on my carpet and didn't pick much hair up (seriously, I had more hair on my coat than the vacuum had in it's canister) and no dirt.

I decided to return the Dyson and put the money in a savings account. Lesson learned, I'm a Kirby convert. :)

Do anyone know what version it is? The Dyson Animal comes in three different versions.
