Olympia Snowe to retire

She is citing the increased partisanship. I'm shocked she is retiring, but understand. I don't think it's a very friendly environment for moderates at all--she was a reasonable voice on so many issues (and I say that as a democrat). She would have likely had a fairly easy reelection, or so I understand it. Here is her statement. It's too bad that she's leaving. We need moderates in both parties. They are the ones that are willing to negotiate with each other, and act like mature adults.

I'm always sad when a moderate leaves, especially when it's partisanship that drove them out.
