"I thought love was only true in fairy tales, meant for someone else but not for me, love was out to get me, that's the way it seems, disappointment haunted all my dreams, then I saw her face, now I'm a believer." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XfuBREMXxts&feature=related

We've had that song (the original not the Shrek Smashmouth version) on our rotation lately since DH put it on our Valentine mix and I had it on my "sing outloud drive fast" CD. While he wasn't the lead on that one, it is my favorite and he was my favorite and always reminded me of those silly shows. I'm so sad.

Oh no! I'm so sad. I loved the Monkees. Watched the nutty tv show religiously. Even saw them in concert during a reunion tour in the late 80s/early 90s. We actually just started showing DDs the Monkee theme song on youtube and had DD1 singing it to her aunt because my SIL loves them too.

Oh no, this is terrible news! I had such a crush on him, used to watch The Monkees on Nickelodeon. I'll always remember him with those twinkly stars in his eyes. RIP Davy. :(

I spent two years of my life doing those leg kicks with my little friends.

End of an era. :(

seems young for a massive heart attack - wonder if he had any pre-existing conditions.

How strange, I was just thinking about him last night! Sad news. I loved watching the Monkees reruns.

When I first met DH he looked like a young Davy. So sad when icons pass so relatively young.

Loved that show as a kid. They were all so cute and downright silly.

RIP Davy Jones.

I am honestly, seriously devastated. I heard in my car and cried. A tiny little piece of my childhood just died.

So sad. :(

This 2006 video of Davy singing Sandra Boynton's "Your Personal Penguin" is one of my favorites (scroll down the page to see the video):

The Monkees was my favorite TV show as a young teen and I still have a couple of their albums. Enjoying them is one of the few "pop culture" things DH and I have from our childhoods (in part because I was sheltered from a lot of pop culture and in part because he's 4 years older and was the youngest in his family vs my being the oldest.)

You will be missed, Davy.

Was it a coincidence that Modern Family did a little "hey hey we're the monkees" joke last night? Either way, nice to see a little Davy moment there.

RIP Davy!! He was just so cute who didnt have a crush on him..he was dreamy! Part of it seemed to be personality. He just had that charm and twinkle in his eye.

I guess I have been living under a rock or something. I just saw this, so sad. I had a huge crush on Davy Jones back when they were on MTV in the 80's. Must have been in the 6th or 7th grade.
