Yes, Barnes & Noble is requiring someone to sign for the packages at home, and will not let UPS leave them at the door. (Which is UPS's standard practice for me). So annoying. I only bought $27 worth of stuff, and the things I bought were not high value (Crayola Crayons and a Fisher Price truck). I called BN.com customer service, with a hold time over 15 minutes, pleading to waive the signature requirement. They said they wouldn't. Surprising, I never had such problems with an e-commerce retailer before.

This is the 1st time I ordered with BN.com, and regret placing an order.

I have never had to sign for any BN packages before. If you know which day the package is arriving, maybe you can leave a signed note on your door stating that you give them permission to waive the signature and leave the package. I know this works with Fedex, so maybe it's the same with UPS.

I've never had a problem having UPS leave a shipment as long as I leave a note stuck on the door giving them permission to leave the package and to accept the note as my signature (signed of course!) Worth a try - especially if you have a hike to get to the UPS store for pick up.

You should be fine. I called BN.com again over lunch, and spoke to a customer service supervisor. She said that I was given wrong info from the other times I called BN customer service. So, BN doesn't make UPS obtain signatures at time of delivery for any of their orders. She then agreed to send me a new order USPS. So, after multiple attempts, BN did what needed to be done, and my little girl will be getting her toys. Yeah!

Everyone is right that UPS will usually leave a package if you put a note on the door, except when the retailer requires a signature. Since BN is not a retailer requiring signatures, the note on the door should work. Who knows what was happening in my case (as my UPS driver was the one claiming that BN made it a mandatory requirement for him to collect a signature.)

I think you can also contact UPS once you have a tracking number and ask them to reroute the package, for example to your office. You may also be able to ask UPS to waive any signature requirement. IME UPS has great customer service. :)

I don't think it's been mentioned but there are quite a few bilingual educational games and puzzles. I was only looking at the Spanish but I saw at least one or two in French also. Board games in Spanish are hard to find in this area and often expensive online so I was really excited to see a few in this sale.

I caved and bought the Monster Bullet Kick. For $80 shipped, I thought it was worth a shot. DS (5.5) loves his mini kick but it due for an upgrade - he's had it for 3 years now.

I'm worried that it will be too big, and not the same quality as the mini kick. Hopefully I don't regret not doing the maxi kick, which I've seen IRL and looks super sturdy.

Generally most shipping companies (UPS, Fedex etc...) will allow you to tape a note to your door stating - I authorize UPS or Fedex to leave the package at my door without my signature and then you sign your name. Most shippers will leave the package. Sometimes they will take the note for proof of sig and sometimes they won't even do that. It isn't really B&N that needs to be contacted about sig issues.

I think B&N has 5 year olds manning their shipping department. I bought a gift for my niece, a corolle doll and then added a corolle hairbrush set for under 3 bucks. I marked it as a gift. I get a shipping notification now for the hairbrush set. The note for this set is sort of a continuation of the original note. And it's just ridiculous that they'd ship a $3 item that clearly belongs to the original larger item, on its own before they send the large item. This is going to be such a lame gift giving. Sigh. She'll get a brush set with a cryptic note.

i'm b&n member (did this 2 years ago to get the discount on a purchase that 10% basically paid for the membership and just kept renewing *sigh*) and i have to agree that their shipping makes me sorta frustrated. i like getting things as soon as possible, but there are times that i have so many shipments even oblivious DH raises eyebrows.

Thanks. I may do the same. Their return policy says it has to be within 14 days. I returned something in store that I had bought online earlier in this sale, and they did check the date on the invoice to make sure it was 14 days or less.

Yes, sorry for the confusion. At the top of the return page, it just says "within 14 days" but if you read under the section Returning Items from Barnes and Noble.com it does say "within 14 days of the date that you receive your order". There is no date on the invoice stating when you receive it so maybe they just look at the date you ordered and see if it seems within a reasonable amount of time if it's beyond 14 days. I guess they could be picky about it if they wanted to be--although that wouldn't be good for business. I returned within 14 days of the date on the invoice and she did make a point to check the date, so I'm not sure what she would have done if it had been beyond. I imagine it wouldn't be a problem, but just a heads up.

Thanks iaam - still lots of good stuff left including automoblox for about $18 if that 20% is still working. I think we paid close to $40 for most of ours - DS is nearly 7 and still plays with them all the time
