Any great deals? DS2 just asked me to buy some "scarves in lots of colors like red and orange and green that float all round and are fun Mommy!" I'm assuming his play based preschool broke out the play silks. DS1 wasn't that into them so we only had two, but I am excited to have a child who wants some. I love creative play items, but these can be expensive!
TIA

buy material at the fabric store and cut into squares. no they won't last as long, but they will be just as fun at a fraction of the cost.

I ordered some plain white silk scarves from Dharma Trading Company and tie-dyed them myself. They turned out great, and my friend's daughter and my niece love them! I have a set waiting for my kids to enjoy later on, too.

My kids play for hours with swaddle blankets etc. that I haven't put away. It's a dress, it's a cape, it's a boat, it's a you name it. I don't know that I have seen playsilks, but I am guessing it is the same sort of thing. Do you have any that you could pull out? Can't beat free. Although if she is asking for them... I'll look and watch for sales too. They have to get something in their easter baskets! Wouldn't that be a pretty one! Thanks for walking me through that op;) Sorry I am not more help!

Loooong ago, we got a set of 8 from A Toy Garden. They are beautiful and they float in the air. My kids use them daily for one thing or another. If they were stolen, I'd replace them immediately! http://www.atoygarden.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=1114&CFID=14570778&CFTOKEN=a46ded3db99d18de-F21C4AE6-D61C-E357-DBBBA42FE0CFC80D

Ladybug, what type of silks did you get?

I was looking at the
Chiffon: http://www.dharmatrading.com/html/eng/1521-AA.shtml
and the Habotai: http://www.dharmatrading.com/html/eng/1738-AA.shtml

The Habotai description says that they are good for playsilks, but the Chiffon description explicitly says that they float well. (Half the attraction, I think, for the playsilks.)

They both end up being around $60 for a dozen 35x35's. (Not including shipping and all that.)

Anybody know of any discounts/free shipping codes with this site?

Here's a great tutorial for dying the silks with Kool-aid, by the way: http://www.gerberadesigns.com/triedandtrue/?p=390

I got the Habotai and they are plenty float-y, IMO. :)

Thank you all for this info. Did you all get different sizes or the same size. What size(s) did you get?

I'm not sure the exact dimensions, but the main ones I got were large squares, which I dyed a different color range each (blue/turquoise; orange/yellow; etc.) and then I got one extra-large one per set and dyed it all the colors, rainbow-style.

I bought Habotai and my kids LOVE them. They use them every single day. I bought the 35x35 ones. We recently got some smaller ones that are fun for setting up scenes (green grass, brown mud puddle) for our play people and farm animals, but they use the larger ones for that, too.
