I have to second the marpac sleep machine...everyone in my family sleeps with one!! Be sure to get the one with 2 modes...we like the louder mode but that just personal preference.

We have a marpec and I've just decided to use my free $50 at Penney's (from a few months ago) to get a second. Don't bother with the cheapies, you want LOUD.

I've never tried marpac so I can't comment. However we got a cheapy $20 sound spa machine from BBB and it works great. Both kids used it. It has 6 different sounds plus timers for on all night or auto off at 15min, 30min and 60min. It comes with a/c adaptor but is also battery operated which is great for overnight trips, camping, etc. I'm sure the marpac's are great but I love our $20 one.

I second this - we have the Homedics Lullaby Spa sounds one...with the projection pictures. Has various sounds and a timer. We started out with the Marpac but found it too loud for us and quite pricey. The BBB one did the trick even though DD was 3 by the time we bought it. This plus humidifier going all night seem to be enough sound.

I downloaded a white noise track onto one of our old iPods and then bought a cheap iPod dock with speakers and play it in DD's room.

Wendibird said exactly what I was going to say! It is a Homedic I believe.

We have the DEX Sound Sleeper (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dbaby-products&field-keywords=noise+machine) and it works really well. Has a lot of noises and you can even combine some plus it has a timer or you can just leave it on all night...

Yes, homedic is the brand. Thanks for that.

We use small fans. The sound machines I have heard are not loud enough for me. Might have to try the one that all the pps are talking about though, it must be good!

:yeahthat: Except we have four. The first has just now finally sort of petered out, but that is after running pretty well 24/7 for over five years. They are much louder than other ones I have heard, and more durable.

We have one from BBB and one from Brookstone. Both work just fine.
