UPDATE in POST 11

I kind of like this silk shirt in navy. http://canvas.landsend.com/pp/womens-silk-boyfriend-shirt~231108_-1.html?bcc=y&action=order_more&sku_0=::GC1&CM_MERCH=IDX_sale-_-women&origin=index. What do you think? Seen anything similar elsewhere I should check out?

I'm thinking it would go with my gray skirt, pants and jeans. Maybe also with denim jeans? And khakis in a stone color?

Could I wear it with black shoes and a black handbag? I don't have navy and won't be getting navy shoes or a bag.

Thanks!
Catherine

It's cute! I wouldn't do black with it (my own quirk, I'm sure someone like arivecchi could tell you how to make it work :)), but I would probably do some sort of camel or red accessories (handbag, shoes), or even white later on for more of a nautical look. The grey and khakis you mentioned also sound good.

Let us know if you get it and what you think!

I like it! I think it would go with a lot of things.

This is the first time I've visited the LE Canvas site. I've seen all the threads about it, but have been avoiding it. Some of the sale items are very tempting. How's the quality?

Thanks! My only two nice handbags are black and tan. The tan would look fine with the navy shirt I think, but not with the grey skirt/pants.

I have that shirt in the Peach Blossom color and I love it. I keep seeing that same shirt in that same coral color in all of the magazines, so I think it is very on-trend. Have you considered that color at all? It would go with gray and khaki and you could definitely wear black shoes with it. I wore the shirt Monday with a khaki linen skirt, and wore it a couple of weeks ago with a black tweed skirt and black cardigan. The only thing I don't like about it is I always seem to spill something on it when I wear it, but I have been machine washing and drying it and have just been touching it up with the iron, and it seems to be fine.

I am biased, though, I own very few things that are navy. I bought a navy blouse last fall at the Banana Republic outlet for some ridiculous price like $9 and I have barely worn it because it doesn't go with my black shoes.

The other two colors would not look good on me. The whole orange family, including peach is bad. And the bright pink isn't good either.

I am really wondering about black with navy. Men wear black shoes with navy suits all the time. . . .

I think the shirt is cute and would be fine with black accessories, especially when you pair it with gray. With khaki, maybe some shade of brown would look better for bag and shoes.

I've never had a problem wearing black and navy. I think it's an old "rule" that you're not supposed to. You would wear black with dark navy denim, so IMO it's no different.

I think it would look good on someone who is skinny and tall. For me, I know it wouldn't look good, I'm short and large breasted, so button down shirts don't flatter me, esp ones that don't have a more fitted waist.

I like that shirt in navy. I actually bought a couple of LE Canvas shirts when they were $12 and really like them so far!

I would wear navy with grey, tan, white and maybe cargo green. You can do navy and black but they have to be really sharp looking pieces/accessories IMO or it just looks like a mess.

UPDATE

Well, I bought it in navy and really like it. I am 5'7" and it is plenty long enough to tuck in and the sleeves are just about too long for me so this would be a good choice if you are tall.

Thanks!

Agreed. They are too close in color, so it looks like you are trying to match but failing. grab a cheap, brightly colored bag from Target - kelly green, peach, yellow, hot pink - and wear a navy, gray, white, or tan shoe.
