View Full Version : What do we think about Sperry's for women?

My husband has worn them for a long time and recently ds started wanting a pair. I got lucky and found a super cute pair at Payless for ds that look just like the Sperry's that were $$$!

However, this weekend at a local theme park I started noticing several girls wearing them. I'm saying girls because most of them were teenagers. Is it "in" for an almost 30 yr old to wear them? I tried a pair on at Famous Footwear today and liked the lighter color but can't decide if I look like a dork! I dress pretty casual like tees, tanks, shorts and i'm in FL so i'm typically a flip flops sorta girl but my feet are bothering me a little these days and I need to make a change in my footwear choices!

These are the ones I tried on but there seem to be several styles of them out now that i'm looking online.

I got a pair of the red ones from 77 (boys section) and love them!! They are the perfect color, super cute with jeans and a white tee or a navy dress. Plus with coupon they were only $22.00!!

I like them and think they would be fine. They are very preppy so I would make sure they will go with your wardrobe.

I have a pair of light taupe canvas boat shoes (not sperry) and I'm 37. Around here the canvas style are more "in" than the leather ones.

I've been obsessing over boat shoes lately. I think they would look so cute for the summer. I'm like you...I want something other than flip flops to wear for the summer. Costco had a traveling road show and featured the Margaritaville boat shoes for around $44 I think. I wish I had gotten a pair then because I think the Margaritaville ones fit my feet better than the Sperry's.

I love Sperry's and wear them lots. However (disclaimer) I am not into fashion! I think they are cute!

So random, I just thought how comfy boat shoes would be and used my 20% off code to buy these last week, so fun looking http://m.piperlime.gap.com/product.html?dn=pp906718002&pdn=search

And I'm pretty hip ;)

I've always loved sperry's too. Although, the pr I had as a teen, didn't look like your typical boat shoe. I'm glad it's coming back into style, I've always loved the look. I don't think that a 30 something is too old to wear it!

Costco has Sperry's!! The Bluefish model in two colors: grey with cheetah print, and a dark brown with gold like mesh?

$49.99

I'll see if I can find some pictures.

Graphite with cheeta (sizes 5 and 6 are cheaper on Endless - $43): http://www.endless.com/s/ref=topnav_sk__b/182-7315619-3182549/?onsale=&showDesigner=&keywords=sperry+bluefish&x=0&y=0#__ie%3DUTF8%26cAsin%3DB004FUCEYQ%26fromPage%3D search%26sr%3D1-1%26qid%3D1333257412809%26asinTitle%3DSperry~~20To p-Sider~~20Bluefish~~20Boat~~20Shoe%26contextTitle%3 Dsearch~~20results%26clientPageSize%3D100%26sort%3 Drelevance-fs-rank%26keywords%3Dsperry%2Bbluefish%26asin%3DB000F VASYM%26ref%3Dsr_1_1%26pageCode%3Dd

I like them a lot and would love a pair of the pastel (http://m.sperrytopsider.com/mt/www.sperrytopsider.com/store/SiteController/sperry/productdetails?catId=cat90048DM&productId=7-136180&skuId=***7********9295494*M070&stockNumber=9295494&showDefaultOption=true&subCatId=cat100150DM&subCatTabId=&viewall=) or metallic ones (http://m.sperrytopsider.com/mt/www.sperrytopsider.com/store/SiteController/sperry/productdetails?catId=cat90048DM&productId=7-104110&skuId=***7********9302175*M060&stockNumber=9302175&showDefaultOption=true&subCatId=cat100150DM&subCatTabId=&viewall=), but they don't fit my wide feet. I would have to buy mens sizes for them to work for me and I just haven't found ones I really like, plus I really only like the original style ones.

I have no idea. I couldn't even find the original source from Pinterest. To me they look a bit like the Sperry Bluefish in Linen Oat: http://www.endless.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_0_7/182-7315619-3182549/?onsale=&showDesigner=&keywords=sperry+top+sider+womens&sprefix=sperry+#__ie%3DUTF8%26cAsin%3DB000EPCPEA%2 6fromPage%3Dsearch%26sr%3D1-21%26qid%3D1333304128557%26asinTitle%3DSperry~~20T op-Sider~~20Bluefish~~202-Eye~~20Boat~~20Shoe%26contextTitle%3Dsearch~~20res ults%26clientPageSize%3D100%26sort%3Drelevance-fs-rank%26keywords%3Dsperry%2Btop%2Bsider%2Bwomens%26 asin%3DB000EPCQA8%26ref%3Dsr_1_21%26pageCode%3Dd

The Margaritaville ones also look similar: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006B9Z6J4/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?ie=UTF8&m=A1UG884EF99PVQ

Thanks ladies! I ended up using a code for Piperlime from someone here and ordered the Sperry Angelfish style. They don't cover quite so much of the top of the foot so maybe they'll be a teensy bit more feminine!

Would you mind giving me your opinion on color? Would you choose pewter or linen oat?

Definitely the pewter. I have a pair of Dexter boat shoes in a bronze/goldish side from Payless several years ago. Everyone loves them. The metallic colors are just so versatile and fun.

I agree the angelfish ones are really cute on. If you can order from kids sizes, about 20.00 cheaper, check sizing but generally size 6 is a youth 4.

I might order these...I need some white shoes...http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00842N1MK/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATGJ1UGXHF2B3

but I also like the linen floral pattern too.

I tend to agree with you on that. I ordered both online and will compare in person. There is a $55 price difference but it only makes sense to get the once Ill love and wear. The sperrys look far more cute.

I saw a lot of Sperry's at Nordstrom Rack last week and thought about it all week long. I couldn't really try any on then because I had DD with me and she was being a terror. Yesterday I decided to give myself an early birthday present and go get some--and they were all gone except for a few sequined varieties! I was so disappointed! But I've been thinking about them so much I might just go to Nordstrom and pay full price for my favorite color.

I know! Me too! I purchased the two cheapest Sebagos on amazon and a pair of the Sperry angelfish online just to compare (I dont get out much). The dark brown pair I thought were so ugly in person. The Sperrys I got from Nordstrom, they feel like absolute heaven soft gym shoes, but the big winners were these Sebago Felucca for the style and price. I read the reviews, people said they hurt or had a break in period. I feel like they were made for me, Im crazy about them! Most people say the quality is superior than sperry in a general sense.

How much were they at the Rack if you dont mind me asking?

Here is a great deal, they are girls, but to get an idea of sizing in these, I wear a size 6 in almost all women's shoes and I wear a 4.5 in girls in these, so if you are a 6-8 you could wear these.

They have the linen oat and the green/pink floral, they are really cute IRL.

I live in coastal MA and Sperry's are very popular with teenage girls. Silver and plaid are the big sellers. I like them but they make me feel dorky!

I live under a rock, this is a thing now? I guess it fits in with the preppy trend.

I remember those shoes being popular back in the day but I can't quite recall the details.....late 1980s maybe?

I remember wearing Sperry's in high school, esp from 83-86, remember Polo shirts, Izod Lacoste with the collar turned up, all the boys wore Polo Cologne...Le Sportsac bags, some even wore two Izod's at once, and PENNY LOAFERS, and in the winter Shetland Argyle Sweaters...

I've been wanting this pair: http://www.6pm.com/sperry-kids-bluefish-youth-silver-cloud-pink-leopard, but the ones you posted are also very cute and $10 cheaper, so I think I'm going to order them! If I end up wearing them a lot I'll keep an eye on the others to pick up if they go on a better sale.

Also wanted to add that my local Nordstrom Rack had several styles of women's Sperrys today, although none I was in love with. Some were cute plaids, just not colors that worked well for me. They only had 1 pair of canvas ones in kids sizes 3.5-4.5.

Now that I said that, I realized they charge shipping so it's only a $5 difference. I'm really torn about which ones to order! I like the shape of the Angelfish ones better, but prefer the pattern on the Bluefish pair...

They weren't a super good deal, but I think they were between $45-$55. The men's Sperry's were only discounted $10, from $80 to $70 or something like that.

The Sebago's are intriguing--I will have to investigate those further!

I got the Sperry Anglefish today, and the Sebago brand the other day that looks similar, thinking I would love the Sperrys and in a comparson the Sebagos were better in every way - cheaper, more feminine, and fit like they were custom made for me. I thought for sure the sperrys would be the winner but I was wrong. if you are on the fence I would highly recommend these
