I haven't read the book, but considering the genre, I'm guessing ben wa balls. I've have no btdt, but I lived in SF. :) (Large Chinatown + sexually adventurous populace).

I just finished reading it and am glad I am not the only one who didn't know what certain things were, like the silver balls.
