April is Autism Awareness month, but this "awareness" too often takes the form of fear-mongering or vague feel-good campaigns that don't really do anything to improve the lives of autistic individuals and their families.

There is a growing movement to make April "Autism Acceptance Month" and to make real changes in how people with autism are treated in our society.

I came across this blog post this morning. It's lengthy, but makes so many excellent points:

Autism Awareness is Not Enough: Here's How to Change the World (http://blogs.plos.org/neurotribes/2012/04/02/autism-awareness-is-not-enough-heres-how-to-change-the-world/)

I meant to put this in the Lounge. I'm going to cross-post it there.
