Probably best in the 2-4 year old age range. The Leap Frog Counting Candles Cake:

We bought it for $15 for ds2's 2nd or 3rd birthday and it has gotten continuous play. Dh and his co-workers somehow started talking about this toy the other day and all had the same positive experience.

For $15, it's a great birthday gift.

thanks for mentioning that this toy works for older (2-4) children... i see it all the time and think it's so stinkin' cute, but for some reason it seemed like a 1st birthday gift to me.

my local barnes and noble actually has a bunch of them on their sale table right now (50% off their high retail of 22.95...) if they get to 75% off i might have to get one :)

(and now i'm kicking myself for not getting my daughter one 2 years ago thinking it was "too young"-- i know she'd love the blowing out feature! great for pretend play!)

I think I might get that for DD2. She had fun playing with it last weekend at a friend's house.
