Interesting short read

Somewhat longer read, but here is an interview with the author of the passage, although he didn't really write that story. The test writers completely changed it. I'd love to know who re-wrote the story into that craziness. http://blogs.wsj.com/metropolis/2012/04/20/daniel-pinkwater-on-pineapple-exam-nonsense-on-top-of-nonsense/

On a side note, I have never seen a pineapple that looks like the one in that photo.

ETA: Here's the actual exam and questions. Even though the story is nonsense, some of the test questions do make sense, but others still do not http://usny.nysed.gov/docs/the-hare-and-the-pineapple.pdf

What is amazing to me is how much the original article in the link you posted changed the story. That makes as much sense as the story that was actually on the test!

My dd2 is in 7th grade and also took the ELAs this week in NYS. She too came home perplexed by a story about 2 bunny rabbits. It was different from the above story (which was on the 8th grade test) and she was wondering why 7th graders had to read about a weird story about bunnies.

*Sigh* I think it's just going to continue to get worse with state testing here in NY. I wish I could opt my kids out from all the testing. It is nonsense and I tell my kids all the time that I don't really care what scores they receive on the tests and for them to just do their best, but not to sweat it.

If you noticed the article I linked had the corrected story on it as an edit at the bottom, they had copied the first story from another news source.
