I have a recipe for chocolate cake and white icing that we always use for birthdays in our family. Last year, I used it to make an owl cupcake cake for DS's birthday and this year I'm going to attempt a rocket ship cake.

I love the one in the picture, but there are no directions! Do I start with a sheet cake and trim it? And what does it look like they used for the candy decorations? I only succeeded last year because I followed the directions in a magazine.

Looks like a sheet cake that was trimmed. Those look like sugar decorations that you might be able to pick up at Michaels. Alternatively, you could always make some out of chocolate molds.

I'm thinking the little dots are sixlets. The silver balls are usually in the cake decorating aisle. I have silver, gold and pastel metallic ones. The window/bubble thing looks like a jello mold.

Nerds would probably work too, if you can't find sixlets (and depending on your color scheme)
