Since this summer, I'll be home with DS and the baby, I'm hoping to keep DS engaged education-wise and not devolve into daily SpongeBob marathons.

I read an article in Wired recently about www.khanacademy.org which listed a bunch of really cool websites for fun, engaging, kid-friendly educational websites. I haven't checked them out yet, but I think Khan Academy is really cool, and they compared these favorably.

I'd love to hear other suggestions. Particularly for math drills. DS is in the advanced math group and is good at math, but is slower than the other kids in that group (which I knew, but he volunteered to me the other day.) I'd love one that challenged him to get quicker, memorize math facts, etc. so that the higher math would be easier. I do that some already, by challenging him to figure out money things when we shop, etc., but I'd love something he could do on his own, particularly one that has a game feel to it.

Check out big brainz. It's A video game style math fact drill game. My 6yo son LOVES it. There's a free version and a modestly priced one that has more levels.

Eta: the game is called timez attack or similarly. Hth.

Ugh, typed a huge long post and lost it! I think I put most of the links back in that I had...

My all time favorite for math is Khan Academy! It allows you to learn, practice, track, set goals, and more.

For all kinds of learning, stories and games, there are lots of sites that range through a variety of subjects and age levels…

Glad it is helpful! I have used a lot of different ones in my job this year with the younger set and have been trying to keep track. The older kids did more with applications so not as many.
