..and his wife who is due in July.
I would like to get two gifts for SIL's baby shower. English is her second language so I don't think a book would be up her alley. She might watch a DVD though. I was thinking of The Happiest Baby on the Block DVD. Any other recommendations?
And I really wanted to get a good book for my brother who will be a first time dad and has no clue.
Or any other books that are super helpful. I referred to the "What to Expect" book a lot but have since read that others are better. Which ones?

The only child rearing books I have read cover to cover and relate to babies less than a year are the following:
American Academy of Pediatrics Guide to the First Year (I got it in the welcome home kit from the hospital) and Baby Signs by Linda Acredolo. The AAP also has a guide to the first 5 yrs. .

I would consider these two...

http://www.amazon.com/Be-Prepared-Practical-Handbook-Dads/dp/0743251547/ref=pd_sim_b_1

The only books we had were What to Expect the First Year (didn't get much love on Amazon) and The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding.

Mack Daddy is such a great book: http://www.amazon.com/Mack-Daddy-Mastering-Fatherhood-without/dp/080652703X

My DH was not into reading dad-books at all, and he loooved this. I then read it, too, and it's just great! Informative but like talking to a buddy who's really funny.

I was going to suggest the Happiest Baby on the Block DVD.

We also had the What to expect books the first time around, didn't really like the first year one. I just ordered Heading Home with Your Newborn.

I got this for DH it's really cute, very informative (it's the only book I saw that dealt with baby proofing a hotel room, for example).

I recommend Baby 411 to everyone, it's a great book when you're too tired from newborn stuff and encounter something like little pin-point sized spots of what looks like blood in a diaper, or your kid squeaks when he breathes in... (both examples of things the book helped us diagnose and/or know how to deal with).

DH really liked this but I never read it so can't vouch for the content. http://www.amazon.com/Be-Prepared-Practical-Handbook-Dads/dp/0743251547/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&qid=1336426729&sr=8-15

ETA: Just realized this is the same book as listed above.
