I learned this in middle school in a summer enrichment program and still use it today. Have any of you ever learned it? Some links indicate the "9" trick is part of it, and come to think of it, I learned them together in the same class, so it's probably the same thing.

(I haven't watched this whole video, but only the first few minutes.)

I learned this technique way back when, not sure. I only learned counting, addition and so forth. Didn't learn multiplication, etc. Sometimes I use this method to count something up.

Yep. I still use it. My 2nd grade teacher had a piece of wood painted with two hands with lights on each finger. The switches for the lights were push buttons. As she talked us through the math, she was showing us with the lights which fingers should be up and down.

I remember that I learned it, but do not remember it now.

love it and still use it all the time. I learned it in 1st grade. Are you going to teach it to your kids? I feel kind of funny doing that, but I also find it incredibly helpful!

I love that I can do it without thinking, like say the days of the week, and then look down at my fingers to see how many days out I had counted.

Wow, this is really cool! I'm going to show this to Gator. This kind of thing fascinates him. Thanks!
