DS's birthday party is at FairyLand and will have a circus animal theme. The park is based on a variety of nursery rhymes and children's stories. As favors I'd like to give out some kind of book. Ideally I'd love to find the classic Little Golden Books for cheap, but so far they are at least $4.99 each new, kind of high for favors. So I'm looking for other small but 3-year old appropriate books with a circus or nursery rhyme theme. Any suggestions of places/sites to buy decent quality books for less than $3 each?

The selection is hit or miss but Dollar Tree sometimes has decent picture books and coloring books.

How about a dollar store coloring book with a box of animal crackers?

I love Fairyland. What a great place for a party.

I second the dollar tree. I'd also check out the dollar section of Target - they often have 3-yo appropriate kiddie books.

ETA: Depending on how many favors / books you're looking to buy, if you don't mind the books not being identical, I'd check out Costco too. We found some Dr. Seuss board books there that have held up well. Those books are $4.99 each on amazon and elsewhere, but the set we bought was around $5.99 for 4 books. So naturally we picked up all 3 sets. =) Costco has inexpensive books, but the selection is the hard part.

I agree with Dollar store and Target for party favors. Target's $1 section has some *great* party favor ideas. Do you have a local book discount store like "Half Price Books"? Those are good places too.

Do you have any local discount book stores? We have 75% off Books here, as well as Half Price Books. Also, Scholastic has Warehouse sales, where they sell their book fair books for half off. http://www.scholastic.com/bookfairs/events/warehouse/

If you get books from the Target Dollar Spot, just check them carefully. I think people have mentioned things like mistakes and typos. I haven't been too impressed with the books there.

How about something like these: http://www.amazon.com/1-25-Dot-Dots-Ready-Book/dp/0887434479/ref=pd_bxgy_b_text_b

Amazon sells Little Golden Books for $3.99 and they are on their promotion of buy 3, get 1 free. If you have prime, you can order in multiples of 4 with free shipping, making each book $3. Here's a link to one of the books:

Yeah, DS is really into it this year so we got an annual pass. They just redid the Circus party area and its perfect for him, he wants an animal theme. I found single serve cones of Popcornopolis popcorn at Costco that look circus-like. So I'm thinking little cloth bags that have animals on them with a book and a bag of popcorn.

Perfect, thanks! Thanks everyone for all ideas. Hoping I can put a nice favor bag together that's not a BOC.

Not circus or nursery rhymes, but I ordered a bunch of Bear and Friends book packs from Walmart and am breaking them up to give out as favors. There are also some other book packs.
