Everytime I see these http://www.skechers.com/style/21140/bikers-dream-come-true/ofwt sketchers shoes I think "wow that is exactly what I'm looking for"
But everytime I try them on, I can't bring myself to buy them. They just don't quite feel right. Like the instep is in the wrong place for my foot.
Can anyone recommend something similar (slip on, more supportive-type shoe but not boats)? Ok that is a long list but I have faith in the BBB community. Sporty like what is shown is ok, but not necessary.
FWIW I know I have high arches and anything without arch support will not work. I'm also working on a budget...so the cheaper the better, but I also recognize that you can't totally skimp on shoes....we do only get one set of feet! :)

Besides the high instep, do you have any other fit challenges? Narrow foot? Wide foot? Plantar fasciitis?
I've looked enviously at those Skechers, but, sadly, they run far too narrow for my foot - since DD arrived, I absolutely need a wide shoe! (I also have a flat foot, so I do need some structure & stability or I get ankle knee and, now, hip pain!)
Clarks Privo has some nice ones, albeit double what a pair of Skechers might cost, but they're fairly well-made shoes and a pretty good deal for the money:

Quite a few styles are also sold at Zappos, so you'll get free shipping & free returns if you shop there.

Not particularly. My feet tend to run narrow-ish to average. That is to say, I've never had to purchase narrow shoes, but I do find some brands run too wide for me. The only other challenge is the instep. I can't ever wear flats because they make my feet hurt so quickly without arch support.
Thanks for the rec on Zappos. I've actually never shopped there.
I used to have a pair of clarks I loved, but haven't found much lately (ETA - In BM stores, I haven't looked online. I'm liking some of these options.) I'll have to take a look at the link you shared.

I love Zappos; I've been a customer for something like 8 or 9 years.
Their free shipping/free returns is lovely. And, if the item is in stock, they're really fast. Like, on par with Amazon during its glory days fast.
