what is a reasonable amount to pay someone to assemble an Expedit (8 cubbies) and a Malm Dresser (6 drawers)?
Any ideas?
thanks!

Gosh it's so simple. I'd do it for free if I were near you. Our Expedit literally took like 15 minutes (8 cubby & 4 cubby stacked and bolted together). Not sure on the dresser but it's gotta be close to as simple as the Expedit.

If you are going to pay someone I'd not pay more than $50 - anything more than that is just crazy talk.

Yeah, I wouldn't pay much. I assembled two of the huge expedits by myself in maybe 2.5 hours.

I am seriously technically incompetent and I put the cubbies together myself, no problem. If I had to pay someone--it would be $10 an hour. It would probably be a max of $30.

The expedit was so easy to put together, and I am really bad at those kind of things. But, I hate DIY dressers. I don't think the quality is worth the purchase at all, no matter how well they're assembled.

$20? Kind of a token...since the whole point is to assemble yourself to save $ on more expensive furniture. Not that I've ever done it!

I actually did do it for free for another spouse while her DH was out of town. I love putting things together. I agree with PP that I would pay someone $30 or less. It's an easy job.

:yeahthat: I may have actually put together our Expedit, which basically means a 10 year old could do it (I am SO not handy!) The dresser would be the one that is a pain, but anything more than $20-30 seems like it's defeating the purpose of shopping at Ikea.

I have hired a handyman to put things together. He charges $25-$30 per hour. I can imagine the dresser would take longer than a hour but I might be wrong.

$20?

But also echoing the sentiment of it being not that bad or that time consuming to do yourself. :)

Nothing.

The Ikea dressers are really easy to put together. I put DD1's together while I was hugely pregnant with no issues. We don't have the Expedit but I did assemble another one of their bookcases. Just lay everything out, look over the instructions and make sure all the holes are facing the right direction when you start to assemble.

An 8 cubby expedit should be a cinch. I did a 16 cubby on my own. My husband did have to help me stand it up at the end as it is HEAVY.

If you already have someone over for something else, I'd tack on $20, but I'd not call someone over to do it. I don't know re: the dresser, but the expedits are easy peasy.

I'd pay nothing since I'd do it myself! The Expedit is super easy to put together-- we have 5 and the only one I didn't do myself (DBF helped) was the big 5x5 one. I also have the Hemnes 6 drawer dresser that I put together on my own.

But if I had to pay someone-- $20-$30.

Unless there is a physical reason you can't, like everyone has said, it's not worth it to pay someone for the Expedit. I did the 2x4 by myself in maybe 15 minutes.
