So, DS *thinks* he likes Legos but all he really cares about is the minifigures. He has also asked for a Star Wars cake for his birthday (although I don't think he knows much about Star Wars!) and I was thinking I might just buy a cake and put some Star Wars minifigures/Legos on top and he'd be thrilled. I remember someone mentioning that there was a particular set that came with a lot of minifigures and that was more cost effective than buying the separate minifigures...anyone know which one that was? Or if there is any set (doesn't have to be Star Wars specific) that comes with a lot of minifigures? And that isn't terribly expensive (like less than $50)?

There two sets are just mimi-figs. Not Star Wars though.

The Advent Calender came with a good # of mini-figs and the other pieces were easy to put together. I thought it was a good value.

I don't know much about Star Wars. Anyway if you want a lot of minifigures, Lego website has this set on sale: http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Fairytale-and-Historic-Minifigure-Set-9349

You get 22 minifigures for $39.98. I think that's pretty good.

If your child likes Kingdoms/Castle, this chess set is new and has 28 minifigures: http://shop.lego.com/en-US/LEGO-Kingdoms-Chess-Set-853373 and you get a base plate

Which SW characters does he like? If you want the iconic R2D2 and C3PO then this set is only $19.99 http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Droid-Escape-9490

or: this has Luke, Obi Wan, R2D2 and C3P0 for $24.99 (exclusive to LEGO Store/Online and I think Walmart).

Or you can use the magnet sets (but they are glued to the magnet), but they would work ok on a cake: http://shop.lego.com/en-US/LEGO-Star-Wars-Magnet-Set-Chewbacca-Vader-and-Obi-Wan-852554

Battle packs have more figs, but usually not the named characters and just troopers etc:

Not Star Wars but you can buy the individual mini figure packs too ... just don't know what figure you are getting till you open it!

Thanks everyone! I had seen one of those minifigure sets but not the fairy tale one. That looks pretty cool! I don't think he really knows (or cares!) which particular guys. I'm not sure why he said Star Wars. Buying separate guys just seemed so expensive if I could get a bunch in a set--IFKWIM? And I don't think he really cares. I think he'll just be excited they're on his cake. :)
