I'm in search of full coverage waterproof mattress covers that do NOT have plastic/vinyl/PVC in them. I need two for thin twin mattresses as well as one for our queen mattress. Any rec's either at Target/Bed Bath and Beyond or Amazon? Thanks!

I previously had one that fully zipped to encase the mattress but have found mostly 'fitted sheet style' covers instead. Is one better than the other?

hmm...how is it waterproof without any plastic or vinyl? are you looking for wool? because if its just cotton, i'm not sure how it would be waterproof.

but, i'd love to find one like that!

we like the fitted sheet style better...much easier to change and wash and make the bed with.

:yeahthat:

However, if what you're looking for is a mattress pad that has a fabric feel and NO crinkling whatsoever, the LE ones are great! http://www.landsend.com/pp/waterproof-mattress-pad~80983_-1.html

We have one on every mattress.

If you really want no plastic/vinyl/etc, one way to do it is to put a regular quilted cotton mattress pad on TOP of a sheet of fleece thicker fleece - with something absorbant on top of the fleece to soak up fluid, the fleece will be able to keep any wetness from soaking into the mattress. As PP mentioned, wool is another option and would work the same way as fleece.

We do the fleece thing as a backup because we only have one set of waterproof mattress pads for the girls' beds, and it hasn't failed us yet (been through pee leaked from pull-ups and pools of blood from bloody noses).

They make them without plastic/vinyl but with a very tight weave - they're similar to what keeps dust mites out (that is the kind I have on my bed right now but it's years old and ripped).

Naturepedic makes one but it's $$$.

I'll be watching this thread for less expensive options as well...

ETA: IKEA also has a "rubber" option but it isn't clear from the description what that means and whether it's essentially plastic. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40143304/

The Naturepedic ones are the best. We don't have one but my boys do. We had them for the cribs as well. We have one of the le ones for our bed, but we didn't get a waterproof one.
