My dd1 is set to have her tonsils removed in a few weeks. I want to get ready and have some good food/drink choices for the days following the surgery. Any ideas on what I should get?
I know lots of peopel say they eat ice cream for days but what should I really get? (in addition to the strawberry ice cream for her :wink2: )

I had my tonsils out in 3rd grade and I remember eating popsicles, rootbeer floats and yogurt.

Yogurt, jello, Popsicles, oatmeal and chicken broth.

In addition to the foods mentioned, juice, mashed potatoes, pudding, and milkshakes. It's good to give variety as kids can actually get tired of ice cream :) and limited choices.

Eta I would avoid soda b/c the carbonation can be too much for the healing tissues.

I ate tons of mashed potatoes and chicken soup when I had mine out.

Thanks for the ideas.
Luckily I have most on hand already so I guess we should be fine. Just trying to get the items early so I won't have to worry about this the week of her surgery.

You might be pleasantly surprised that your DD won't have much difficulty. We stocked up on lots of liquids and popsicles, etc. and DD (she was 5) didn't really change her diet all that much. She was eating her normal diet other than citrus or tomato items within 36 hours. You might also check with her surgeon. Some don't you to avoid dairy products...yes, ice cream.

... not too different from his normal diet...
Spaghetti noodles
Applesauce
Water ice

Get fluids she likes, DS did not want to drink at all. Eatting we could get him to do, but drinking was hard. I had to make a last minute run for blue Gaterade.
