I need to get some sort of blackout curtain or shade for DD's room TODAY. Argh. She has not been going to bed well for the past few nights, AND waking up before 5 am (unusual for her, she usually sleeps to 7:30 or 8). I think it's the summer sun setting after her bedtime and rising WAY before it is time to get up. I need some sort of temporary solution, but I would still like to be able to let the sun in during the daytime hours. Ideas? Please???

Our Target has them--not a huge selection of colors and mostly (if not all) solids, but they're not bad.

I had ones from target. They worked well, but I accidentally put them in the dryer and ruined them. I got pottery barn kids blackout curtains to reach them--I like these better.

I found a few colors of the eclipse brand (same as Target) on clearance at our Kmart last week. They were from $6.99 to $8.99 per panel which is about half price. We hung them in DS's room....they do a good job of blocking the light.

Also try overstock.com. They have ones with stars, really cute.

I noticed some very decent looking ones at Big Lots last week. Two panels for under $20.

Not necessarily cheap, but PBKids used to have liners so you could keep whatever curtains you already have too (you'd need a double rod). You could try rigging up a quilt or something for a couple of days to see if it helps until you find a more permanent solution.

Do you need a curtain or will a shade work? HomeDepot has the Redi Shade that are black out you just peel and stick over your current blind or window and work great behind regular curtains. Cheap too - $7 a shade.

In a pinch we've thrown a dark flannel sheet over the window. We have pink and navy blackout drapes from Target and the navy ones block the light better. DS's room stays really dark.

Thanks everyone, I can stop by Target and Home Depot today and see what they have. I'd really like to sleep later than 4:30am tomorrow! I absolutely LOVE those PBKids ones though...

Check Ace. We got some black out roller shades for DD1 there.

We temporarily tape black construction-type garbage bags to the windows. It works wonders.

I got the Eclipse Kids ones at Walmart. I found them cheaper there than anywhere else and they have been great. DS' room is totally dark when they're closed.

We got some for DS room in the store at Bed, Bath and Beyond for a reasonable price (plus had coupons). But, this was last summer, so not sure what they have in the store this year.

i got ones for DD"s room at Bed Bath and Beyond. There were at least 2 different types, of various quality/pricing. I splurged i think and got the $$$ ones with a nice print, though I used a 20% off coupon. i used 2 panels. they work well... it is pitch-black in there.

I'm not sure if they have them in-stock (stupid JCP site inventory button doesn't work on my Mac), but I really like the Linden St. cotton twill thermal curtains at JCPenney. I have the denim-blue color for the boys' room, and a beige color in my room. Both are plenty dark in the morning!

we got ours at Ikea. they work fantastically! they don't have a lot of choices, but the solids they ahd worked for us (chocolate for us, deep purple for DD).

we have some in our tv room from BBB that say they are room darkening but they aren't at all.

when dd was a baby, i bought the blackout lining fabric at Joanns and basted it to the back of the pink gingham curtains we already had. that worked great and it was pretty cheap.

I ended up getting the temporary paper shades from Home Depot for about $6 apiece. If they work well, meaning that if the light is actually the cause of DD's early awakenings, I am going to check out some of those other options for something a little more aesthetically pleasing.

Thanks for all the help! Praying we get to sleep late tomorrow.

I bought one blackout panel from PBK in 08 when dd was born. (the room DD was in at the time only required one panel.)

I bought a second panel in '10 and the blackout liner was much thinner. I contacted PBK was told they changed the panels, and I can purchase an additional liner to hang as well.

For the price of the panel I don't think I should have to purchase an additional liner.

Target and Lowes have good ones though.

Take diaper pins/safety pins and pin towels to the back of her curtains. That'll buy you time to find/order/etc the ones you actually like!

They're not perfect (there are still small slivers of light on the sides of the windows, but it's a 95% improvement. DD slept until 7. We were hoping for 8, but at least it wasn't 4:30! We'll see if this continues...
