View Full Version : How to clean granite counters?

When we first put in our granite counters I religiously cleaned them with stone cleaner and followed up with polish every night...but four years and DS later they are very neglected. Unfortunately I can't seem to crack an egg without the egg white spilling down the side of the bowl and onto the counter. I am paranoid about salmonella and usually wipe up with a paper towel and then a Lysol or Kirkland cleaning wipe to (hopefully) disinfect. Is this ok for the granite? Am I properly disinfecting? Is there something else I should be doing/using?

I use this http://methodhome.com/shop/daily-granite-surface-cleaner/ or this http://www.cleanhappens.com/products/what-ever-natural-all-purpose-cleaner?gclid=CMORxqq2v7ACFSWFQAodsEgOpA. Got the method at Target and the whatever cleaner at Whole Foods. I like them equally.

We used a special windex that has no ammonia (I think that's the issue). Regular cleaners strip the coating from the surface.

Thank you for this recipe. We just installed granite and they said you don't need anything special just soap and water. I made some of this cleaner and it is the best!

I also like to use a microfiber cloth. It shines it up so nice!
