What kind of hats do your DC wear at the beach? My dc are 4 and 5 if that matters.

DD wears this one

The picture makes the brim look narrower than it is IRL. I like that it cinches up around her head as well as has the strap under her chin.

Baseball caps with sunglasses for both DD (3.5) and DS (2).

Last year DS had a baseball hat made out of rashguard material with a long flap of the material that hung down in the back. Not sure if you can visualize it based on that description! It sounds weird but it was an awesome hat -- it was very light weight and really protected my fair-skinned boy from the sun. Unfortunately, he outgrew it and I can't find anything similar in a larger size.

We love these hats for our fair-skinned, fair-haired DC. They wear them everywhere: to daycare, in the pool, at the lake...

Yes, the had we had was very similar to those! But I only paid about $5. Still, if you're going to be at the beach or pool a lot, it's probably worth it. They dry really quickly!

My DC wear flap happy hats in both of these styles

We have the HA out of the sun SPF hat with built in flaps. DS wore it the whole time we were in Hawaii and it worked great! We didn't even have to use sunscreen on his face and neck. It stay on well because of the elastic, even in windy conditions. Sold out online, but on sale at the retail stores for $10, not sure how much they are the outlets.

The Kids Playhat from Sundays Afternoon. They are great and are the only ones that DC can't pull off. http://www.sundayafternoons.com/kids/sun-hats.html

The baby has a Hanna Floppy hat (that is currently missing, grr) and an iPlay hat like this in a print:

4 year old DD has a Hanna Floppy hat that I can never get her to wear and DS has a baseball cap.

DS is nearly 5 and still fits in his Hanna sunhat (http://www.hannaandersson.com/style.asp?from=SC%7c3%7c2%7c156%7c47%7c11%7c%7c&simg=33320_78M). Unfortunately, they're sold out now. He's had so many over the years that he's conditioned to wearing them, LOL! He also has a NoZone hat which he doesn't particularly like much (he used to have a matching suit but outgrew it), and a pseudo baseball cap from Gymboree - which was originally part of a Halloween costume. Generally, we lather him up with sunscreen and put the Hanna hat on him and hope for the best. We've got skin cancer in the family so it's a big concern.

Hanna Andersson swim hats - they rock.

If they're not likely to get wet, we also use the HA floppy sunhats linked above, but they don't stay on as well when the kids are running around.

Did your kids actually keep a hat or sunglasses on before they turned 3?? My son screams when I try to put on his hat. He's fair skinned too and burns easily, so I've just started to spray lotion on his scalp. Only thing I can do I guess.

I just picked up a couple from Gymboree for my 3 & 6 year-olds. They're like this one, but solid navy with a couple of surfboards on the front. I got them in size 5-7 and 8+.

I got some from TRU last week. I liked that they are made of the quick-dry material (similar to bathing suits) and not regular cotton cloth.

The only sunhat my 2 yr old will keep on is the Hanna swim hat I linked to above. She loves winter hats but doesn't like summer hats that slide off her head. The Hanna swim hat stays on firmly and I think she likes that it keeps her shaded.
