I'm overweight and out of shape and just started walking on the treadmill five days ago. I started at 3.7mph and am now doing 3.8mph, which is VERY fast for me and a real challenge to do that for 30 minutes.

But today there was a lady next to me in her 70s walking at 4mph and then a college-aged girl walking at 5.1 mph (yes, walking not jogging at that speed!).

So now I'm curious how fast you walk on the treadmill?

3.8-4 is about my walking. Anything over 4.5 and I absolutely start jogging (though I'd never set it that low if I wanted to jog).

3.5-4.0 is walking for me. I have very short legs though so my stride isn't very long. up to 4.5 would be racewalking for me and then I'd have to break into a jog. For jogging I usually do 5.3-5.5.

Hm...I do 3.5 and feels fast but doable and gets my heart rate up (I wear a monitor).

Yup, this is what I do too.
