Cleaning straw basket?

my mom brought a straw basket that I used as a doll carrier as a kid. Smells a little musty. Can I steam it and hang it to dry outside?

i don't see why not. i'd probably swish it in a warm tub instead of steaming, but i would think the key would be to not really soak it, but to thoroughly rinse the dust off.

but i've never done it & certainly can't recommend something i haven't done.

When I did a basket making class they suggested running a hot shower and putting the basket in and out of the water.
