Hi! Can you all please recommend good birthday present ideas for my son's 2nd birthday? I am contemplating a play kitchen, but I'm not sure how much use he'll get out of it. He already has a play grill that he likes and plays with off and on, but he is only now beginning to pretend to cook, before he mainly opened/closed the lid on his grill and threw things around! Now I actually see him flipping over his hamburger, etc. Anyway, this is the one I was thinking of getting, if I have the room for it:

I would also love to get him a tool bench but have not been able to find one tall enough for a two year old. This is the only one I've found so far that he could "grow into" but I'm sure he won't know what to do with the foam pieces:

Do any of you have that tool bench and do you love it? He seems to really like motorized play tools, like screwdrivers.

Also, how about train/activity tables? He doesn't seem overly interested in trains yet so I would want one that would be dual-purpose, maybe have a lid to become an art table, and that could potentially accomodate the Thomas sets later. Any advice? Thanks!!

We have a wooden Land of Nod play kitchen (an older model that I don't think they sell anymore) and it gets a ton of use! Both my 2 year old DS and 3.5 year old DD use it daily. We have several food and dishes/pans sets to go with it (mostly Melissa and Doug and Green Toys brands) which also get a lot of play.

We have a tool bench too that my DS got for Christmas. We have this one (http://amazon.com/Step2-706000-Deluxe-Workshop/dp/B003ZFSOZU/ref=sr_1_19?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1341250503&sr=1-19&keywords=toddler+tool+bench). It didn't get a lot of use at first, but now at 2 gets used a lot. (Not sure if he plays with it more now bc of his age or if his interest was piqued by all the construction we had done on our house this spring!)

We don't have a train table, but we do have a train set (wooden tracks and Thomas trains) that get used some. But he still needs help putting together the track, so they aren't a real independent toy yet like the kitchen and the tool bench.

Other toys that my DS plays with a lot...

Duplos
Wow cars/trucks
Little people sets
Sand and water table
Little tikes sports sets (tball, golf, mini goal, basketball hoop)
Plasma car
Cozy coupe
Little tikes car carrier truck

HTH!

Thanks! Can you tell me about duplos? How are those different from legos? We have the mega bloks, which I know also fit on this board that I'm going to get which is actually advertised for duplos:

He likes the mega bloks but I think he would use them a lot more if he had something to stack them on.
