I would get a beaded rope from here. www.jumprope.com/products.php?Category=2 (http://www.jumprope.com/products.php?Category=2)
We have a few of the rope ones and they are harder to use IMO.

If you prefer Amazon...www.amazon.com/Single-Beaded-Jump-Rope-Made/dp/B004P3NDA2/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1341610220&sr=8-7&keywords=beaded+jumprope

Ty. How long of a rope would be good for my daughter. She is around 40 inches tall

Ok nevmind looked up on website 6 feet. Shipping is outrageous at 12$ for a 6$ rope. Anywhere else can be found cheaper?

go to a local sporting goods or hardware store that sells rope (like mountaineering rope) by the foot. Make a knot in the loose end.... put it in DD's armpit, then have her stand on the rope shoulder width apart.... pull the rest of the rope up to the other armpit ... add a bit more for a knot on that end. Makes the BEST jump ropes! This is what I used in Gymnastics as a kid and what they use at our Martial arts studio too!
