View Full Version : Do you think the PBK Planetbox robot pattern is too babyish for an older boy?

If I'm going to spend that much on a lunch box, I want it to last until he goes to college, LOL! I'm only slightly kidding. I think the robot pattern is really cute for DS1, who is entering first grade this fall, but what about for an older elementary or middle school kid? Too babyish? Should I stick with just a plain colored bag, like they have on the Planet Box website?

This is the PBK version:

What do you all think?

They are only $59.95 on PlanetBox.com for the regular size with the carry bag. I would order from there, and stick to the basic colors. I don't care for the "Planet Box by Pottery Barn" logo either.

This. Pattern is so cute, but what's up with that label? Fwiw, lunch boxes get gross so you may be replacing the bag in a year or two.

The bag will probably only last a year or two (the metal lunch box will last MUCH longer) so I'd get whatever your ds likes for now. You can replace with a solid color bag when needed.

:yeahthat:. In our experience, the bag does not hold up great (the metal components do hold up very well). My DDs have had planet box lunch boxes for a year, and the bags are showing a lot of wear. The metal has really worn out the interior of the bag. We can probably get a bit more use out of it, but it is certainly not going to last 2 years.

We used our planetbox everyday of Kindy. I spot cleaned the bag, and then ultimately washed it in the machine.
I feel pretty disappointed in the longevity. We probably could have gotten a little more use out of it, but it's in sad shape. I ordered a new bag for the coming year.

As for your specific question, I think robots would be fine for a 2nd or 3rd grader, but I wouldn't expect to use it.
I really, really dislike the PBox and PBK logo--but love the monogramming option.
