I want to buy my son a play kitchen for his 2nd birthday. I love the look of the Step2 Lifestyle Custom Kitchen (http://www.amazon.com/Step2-737200-LifeStyle-Custom-Kitchen/dp/B000KGAFTU/ref=sr_1_1?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1342204357&sr=1-1&keywords=custom+kitchen+step2) but I really don't want to spend over $100 on a kitchen!

I was also looking at the smaller version, the Step2 Cozy Kitchen (http://www.amazon.com/Step2-810200-Cozy-Kitchen/dp/B004R26KPG/ref=sr_1_1?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1342205228&sr=1-1&keywords=cozy+kitchen+step2) priced at $60 on amazon, but I hate that it doesn't have a play phone (a big hit right now with my son) and doesn't seem to have as many features.

My fear is that he won't play with it much b/c we already have a little play grill which he uses. I suppose that's why I'm looking for one with a lot of extra features.

What would you recommend? Any others you love? Thanks!

If you can wait a month or two Costco usually has a nice sized Step 2 kitchen. Last years was a lot like the first one you listed and it was around $80 IIRC. IME their Christmas toys start coming in in August.

DD has this one, bought it a couple years ago and she loves it!!! Well made, I found w/ DD1 that some of the plasticy play kitchens had parts that broke after a while (like the oven door won't stay up, etc).

This is wooden and this is a good price:

We spent several hundred dollars on a large wooden play kitchen and have never regretted it - it is almost five years old, looks practically new (NOTHING broken on it), the kids climb on it and play with it regularly, it is a huge hit with friends visiting, and it will be passed down to our grandchildren in all likelihood.

Do you have CL listings for your area? Might want to stalk that a bit and get one cheap from there to see how much he will play with it. Then if it's a hit, perhaps you (or grandparents) can get him a nice new one for Christmas.
