I'm throwing a birthday party for DD at a Gymboree-type place, so parents will be in attendance. I'm planning on serving food (light snacks) and, of course, birthday cake.

Do I need to buy food to cover the parents too? I'd hate to order too much food, but then again I can't tell the parents not to eat.

I usually eat the snacks (and cake) at parties I went to if there appeared to be enough. I do expect to be fed either snacks or a meal depending on the time of the party if you are having the parents stay. If it's a drop-off party that I choose to stay at (mainly to get to know the other parents) I don't expect to be fed and will eat ahead of time unless the host offers to feed me.

Yes, I would have food for the adults if you think they will be staying. I had our DD's party at 10am and provided bagels, muffins, and cream cheese from Panera Bread along with orange juice and ice water. I also had a fruit salad.

Absolutely! I'd be starving otherwise:)

eta: light snacks is fine assuming it's not mealtime. A big bowl of cheddar popcorn, a big bowl of chex mix, a cooler with some bottled water and sodas. That's good enough in my book. Fruit would be nice too, but the gym parties I've been to are only a couple of hours, and I snack while watching the girls have fun.

When the kids were younger and the parents stayed, I made sure to have food for them. Now that we've hit 1st/2nd grade, the parents often drop off which is great. Less mouths to feed and much money saved!
