He was born on Thursday night at home and is such a little miracle (I know all mothers think that...). Both older kids got to be there to witness his birth too and they are so very bonded with him already.

His birth was 22 hours start to finish and a lot of hard work - including 4 hours of transition (blech) - but my birth team was amazing. I could not have done it without them. I think I had 2-3 people with me at every.single.contraction massaging me, talking me through it, and encouraging me. The hands-on support was wonderful and exactly what I needed to keep going. I also used Hypnobabies for most of the labor and it also helped a lot.

Being at home (second homebirth for me) was absolutely the right place for him to be, especially given his head positioning issues. We spent those hours of transition doing all sorts of positioning techniques to help his head come down (he was asynclitic - http://www.spinningbabies.com/baby-positions/all-positions/asynclitism) and in the end it worked and I was able to push him out while the midwife held back a cervical lip.

There is nothing like the exhultation of your baby coming out and being put skin-to-skin on your chest after the hard work of laboring. I've had a very fast recovery with minimal discomfort, and DS loves to nurse so that part of post-partum is going smoothly.

Of course he's a miracle; there is no other child like him in the world. Congratulations on what sounds like a kind of tough birth for the third time around. I always think it gets easier with each birth, but that's not even true as a maxim. I think midwives say second one is easier, third is unpredictable. Congratulations on all the pleasure of another newborn!

4 hours of transition? That makes me want to faint!

I'm so glad you had such a wonderful team in place to help you through it all.

Best wishes as you enjoy all of those wonderful newborn snuggles! :love-retry:

Congratulations, and even for this hospital birthing mama there was nothing like those first couple of skin to skin moments after the baby was born.
