View Full Version : Can we do another post your favorite outfits thread?

I loved last years "favorite outfits" thread last year. It really inspired me to try new things and break out from my conservative, matchy-matchy, mom style. I invested in boots, colorful belts, fun shoes in something other than brown or black, scarves, and accessories. But, you know, fashion trends change with the season so I need new inspiration from all of you fashionistas out there. Since everyone is in back to school mode I think it's a great time for us to get back into fashion mode. Can you help a girl out????

For the transition into fall I plan to wear my maxi dress with a jeand jacket or jean vest. I have purchased a few fall scarves and these boots:

Summer to fall transition outfits (that summer shirt paired with fall pants/skirt, maxi with a sweater/jacket) and fall.

And I was counting on you arivecchi to play!!!

I can maybe start posting pictures from online catalogs but I have not actually purchased anything for fall yet!
I am trying to eek out as much as I can from summer first, and am still into my maxi dresses, and other summery things. :)

In SoCal our "summer" lasts through October usually so I don't even think about sweaters or warmer items until then!

Not the best example, but I've been wearing my scramble skort from Athleta so often I have to show someone! I've also kind of given up on looking pulled-together professionally since I work from home and now it's all about comfort. I do, however, need to put some effort into a professional wardrobe for traveling. Fortunately I do have a couple of suits and a couple shirts I can rotate out:)

This is what I'm wearing today. Every mom should have a scramble skort. The pockets are a-maz-ing.

And I guess when it gets chilly I'll throw a sweater over it until it's cold enough to need to cover my legs.

I will be following this thread because I agree I got a lot of good ideas last time from those who do much better than I do in terms of clothing choices. Where's GP? I hope she sees this!

its my personal vintage... it was a jean jacket i bought at H&M in like 2001 that I hacked the sleeves off of in 2008.

girls, dig in your attics!!! you might have a jean jacket worthy of an attack of the scissors!

Oh yay, another fave outfits thread! Can't wait to see everyone's pictures. I'll play, Wendibird, but you have to promise to post your own pics! I so enjoyed seeing your style in the last thread!

Twowhat, cute outfit! I love the cozy white sweater on top. Skorts are a great alternative to shorts. My casual mom on the go wardrobe is rather limited (I tend to just repurpose my work clothes with jeans) so I need to check out Athleta and see what the raves are all about!

Scriptkitten, love the denim vest and maxi dress. You are so creative to hack up your clothes! I've been looking for a maxi dress and just bought one off eBay.

Txcat, you can use the self-timer on your camera--no need to buy a new mirror!

OK I'll play! I have a bunch of photos to share since I've been actively participating in YouLookFab (http://youlookfab.com/) over the last year! I even have my own "fashion blog" (http://goldenpig.lookfab.com/) there.

Here are some recent work looks:
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-A1u80nalW4M/UCUeK-z8eII/AAAAAAAABDs/vTeTKTpl4dQ/s400/2e156124dbe79900741d1f51a9e8319c576_image.jpg
Wendibird, I don't see anything wrong with matchy matchy! ;) I'm really into matchy matchy like they used to do in the 50's and 60's. I love this Kate Spade Florence Broadhurst Japanese floral print so much that I bought up five different pieces in the print when it went on sale (I only buy Kate Spade on sale). I thought it would be too over the top with the dress, purse and laptop case all together but when I posted it, Angie said matchy matchy is really "in" on the runways now. Well, who would have thought I'd be runway ready, LOL!

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-1q6aTLQgLZY/UCUeK6xHToI/AAAAAAAABDo/ueU5iOUn4EU/s400/16f7181e9fc361b44ae8deec31e889b8989_image.jpg
I'm also crazy about polka dots right now. This suit has tiny pindots all over it, and I paired it with a belt and shoes and bags that all have polka dots on them too. Even the necklace looks like dots. I love doing themes to excess!

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-Bx6izAtCPAo/UCUeKzK3zaI/AAAAAAAABDk/GwHtciixu4o/s400/148ceb96e4cf8b5a3ed67a65a4c59d12328_image.jpghttps ://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Rahrmmjar7c/UCUeLgBiaDI/AAAAAAAABEA/Y8Y0dLRQLg4/s400/IMG_7864.jpg
I love this ink blue jacket from White House Black Market.

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-T4F-GCkJSMs/UCUeLAWrFXI/AAAAAAAABD0/p5UKJtu-r24/s400/332511da1f6298a8bda5a8397e6d543e236_image.jpghttps ://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-kUq-POMum9c/UCUeLb_lIZI/AAAAAAAABD8/T6tVxeGD120/s400/57e4e71ec025d4f17de3025e13350927197_image.jpg
And this black leather jacket is really versatile--I wear it at work instead of a blazer and on weekends to give my casual outfits a bit of edge. DH hates these H&M floral pants, but I think they're fun, so I mostly wear them to work now instead of weekends.

The formula of blousy tunic plus white jeans plus nude wedge sandals has become my summer uniform. And I can throw on a peacoat to transition into fall.

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-58N2C7iC7Ag/UCUeOaWN3ZI/AAAAAAAABEk/qdCrFE6iGF4/s400/722f75ec799785783ed416e9258857d5256_image.jpghttps ://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-C0WMpMpnvuw/UCUeOTYeG7I/AAAAAAAABEg/-pNoj7IQgtk/s400/940accec33b13ddb8bf749845b2fde30271_image.jpg
Also love to wear red pants (Gap boot trousers and Kut skinny jeans). Converse are my favorite MOTG shoe. And these Cole Haan black wedge sandals are so comfy.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-0RuZC-AWoEE/UCUePsZL3kI/AAAAAAAABE8/K_4xas5WBxM/s400/IMG_9018.jpg
I recently discovered that wearing capri leggings lets me wear dresses for MOTG without worrying about flashing anyone while I'm running around chasing the kids. This Michael by Michael Kors stretch jersey faux wrap dress is one of my new favorites for both work and play. This outfit is soooo comfy, it's like wearing pajamas!

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-kWaG2nXmEgg/UCUeOLoW1cI/AAAAAAAABEY/Y6iA1WAshyY/s400/5dea5c6f85436b86b032aca4f4b577d0435_image.jpg
I actually wore this outfit to work but it would work for MOTG as well. I think this is a very summer to fall outfit--the nude sandals and Anthro floral skirt say summer, whereas the color of the Splendid top and Fossil bag say fall.

Transitional dressing my dominant season since it's cold in the summer here with the fog, and mild in the fall/winter so I had plenty of pics to contribute!

Can't wait to see what everyone else posts! And I hope you aren't intimidated by my pics, it took me a year to get to this stage and it's a real hobby of mine. I recently showed some of my before and after pics (http://goldenpig.lookfab.com/post/on-becoming-a-ylf-veteran) in my blog--I didn't just start out dressing like this! I had a lot of help from the ladies at YLF. They're super nice and supportive--there are women of all ages, sizes, budgets, styles and stages in their style journey posting pics and helping each other out. I really love that place!

Goldenpig you are adding fuel to the fire of my desire for an awesome leather jacket.
And scriptkitten, I think I may have to try chopping up an old jean jacket too. :)

Here are some recent outfits that I could wear into fall probably.
This is an H&M blazer. Random shirt from a shop in Santa Barbara. AG jeggings and Michael Kors sandals.

Boden dress and Cole Haan pumps. ( I wish I would have gotten a bigger size as its pretty fitted, bordering on tight, across my shoulders and chest but I don't think they had the 8L in stock though, and there is just a lot of fabric going on. I still think it will be a good work dress.

elektra - are those the Cole Haan Mariela pumps? I have them in my amazon cart but haven't pulled the trigger yet. Are they comfy?

Yes they are the Marielas. I wouldn't say "comfy" exactly but they do not hurt and the platform plus nike air make them very wearable.
But they run about a half size big! I did not heed the reviews, worrying that they might be too tight if I got a 9. However I wish I would have sized down from my usual 9.5. I have some heel pads in there to try and help things but they are still sliding off the back a bit. Also they are pretty high. I think they look really nice though. :)

And congrats on your weight loss!

Here's a summer/fall outfit I'm wearing to work today. It's rainy, and gloomy, and not very warm today so I went with closed toe and a darker pant.

Shirt: Target from last spring
Pants: The Limited (new) http://www.thelimited.com/Cassidy-Banded-Sides-Classic-Flare-Pants/6628754,default,pd.html?dwvar_6628754_colorCode=34 3&start=2&ppid=c2&cgid=cassidy
Shoes: ON leopard print ballet flats (new)
Jewelry: old

I have trouble with pants because I need a short/petite and something with roomy hips/thighs and tiny waist. I tried on a million pair and ended up with 3 pairs from Limited in 3 different styles/sizes. Nothing fit consistent across "fit" types. Go figure!

Today I paired my summer denim skort (dark wash) with an older ATL tshirt in gold w/ flowerette detail at neck (last spring collection IIRC) and my new cargo vest from ON. I'm digging the vest. It's very versatile. And I like the contrast between the casual cargo w/ the feminine and decorative tshirt. DH, on the other hand, asked me if I was going fishing instead of to work. PS, the last pic was actually taken a couple of weeks ago, before the first four! ;) And all the other pics upthread are 1st tri pics too. I've just been hiding a bigger apple tummy. But now that I'm entering 2nd tri it's time to show off the bump!

Congrats Goldenpig!!! And wow I'm so impressed with your ability to pull off all of those dresses so well. I was never able to do that when I was pregnant.

its my personal vintage... it was a jean jacket i bought at H&M in like 2001 that I hacked the sleeves off of in 2008.

girls, dig in your attics!!! you might have a jean jacket worthy of an attack of the scissors!

You are so brilliant. I want a new jean jacket cause I'm not in love with the way mine fits but I think I will totally doctor it, thanks for the idea!

yes, this is what i was thinking too!! i reread that post and realized that the bottom picture was actually taken BEFORE the others..WOW. you have some mad skillz, i NEED to know your belly-hiding secrets!! :) I am not even pregnant but I am very apple-shaped, my tummy pooches out , and while I love dresses I look pregnant in almost every dress I try on. I am really encouraged by your pics, because I guess disguising a belly CAN be done. I'm off to take some notes here!! :)

WOW! GP, you look amazing!

In fact I love that maternity top in the last pic, I wish that I had found something that looked that good when I was pregnant. I was fairly frumptastic with my bellies....!

Thanks everyone for the well wishes and compliments! Of course, MomWear is where I HAD to make my announcement! ;)

Ms Pacman, I remember your style from previous fave outfit threads and I think you look so gorgeous and very stylish! Twowhat, it isn't a typo. Superbump pic was actually taken a couple weeks before the others...I don't want to hog this thread though, so I started a new one to explain how I hid the baby bump:

You ladies look amazing. Sort of lurking on this thread, looking for ideas (like last year)... Don't know what I would post a photo of, or if I can remember how to do it, but I'm loving all these looks!

GP, starting a separate thread on how to get started on YLF...

Ok, this isn't a "favorite" but I had to post because this outfit would not have existed w/out the BBB thread last year. You guys totally transformed how I dress myself. I'm way more pulled together and way more creative and willing to take risks than ever before. This outfit isn't earth shattering but I never would have worn two different toned blues before, didn't own an orange belt or nude shoes, wouldn't have worn long sleeve w/ short sleeve cardi, and wouldn't have known that I could pull it all together and "anchor" the outfit with the belt and orange toned necklace. So many thanks ladies. I owe you!!

Necklace: can't tell in pic but it's brown, pale yellow and orange, Park Lane
Shoes: Bandolino at Macy's

Great outfit, Wendi! Very creative and professional. Love the orange belt and necklace and the layering.

Now ladies, it's your turn! Can we have some more people posting outfits please? That fall shopping thread is massive and so was the Frye boot thread...so let's see some of your new goodies!

Gee, thanks all!

So here's today's outfit. So many new risks for me...1)magenta ankle pants, 2)heels with ankle pants, and 3)polka dots. I love this blouse (Target) but as you'll see I think I need to stick to wearing it tucked in. It is pleated in the front down the middle and it also scoops at the bottom and so the bottom is lower in the front than the back. Regardless if I wear it with the little tie belt or not I think it looks like a maternity top on me. The gathering plus the scooping makes it look like there's room to expand for a growing pregnant belly. What's funny is I tried this on in the store and didn't get that look/feel there. I had originally tried on the next sz up and it was too big so I just grabbed the smaller sz w/out trying on. Maybe the too large size was so flowing that this "flaw" on me wasn't noticeable? I'll have to try it with a chunkier belt, with dark denim, etc and see if I can wear it untucked with other types of belts/pants.

Pants: The Limited (current season)
Blouse: Target (current season)
Cardi: old ATL
Shoes: old Franco Sarto...love the contrast of suede shoe with croco strap.
