Readers! Weird question about books w/bilingual characters

Have a sort of odd question, thought I'd throw it out there & see if anyone has any ideas. Have you read any books that feature a character/characters who speak multiple languages but aren't fluent in any one of the languages? Like a character who's shown as being able to sell shoes in five languages but doesn't speak any language well?
