We will be leaving in a month or 2 to look for areas to live. DH will be working in 30326 but when we visited it doesn't look like an area we would be happy in. Can you please recommend an area(s) that we should look at?

Great schools
Friendly people
Kids ride bike everywhere
You know your neighbors
Great medical for DS1 and me
Fun

The people that live closer to that area will have more specific advice, but as far as the medical goes, you'll likely be hitting the city for specialists. Children's Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA) is the go-to for a lot of stuff. Emory is also there. If you want specific names, let us know, and we can rec some people. CHOA does have satellite locations spread throughout the metro area, so one of those might work for you, depending on what you need.

My guess is that you'll be happier a little further out from the city. When we were looking, we'd check out neighborhoods and look for kids playing (it's so hot right now though, a lot of people are hiding indoors), homes that didn't look too Stepford (if I didn't see one toy in a yard in the whole neighborhood, that was a red flag), and we'd stop in at local grocery stores, etc. and see if people seemed friendly.

You can not underestimate the importance of your DH's commute. I think that is the single biggest mistake people make when they move here. They think, "Oh, 40 miles, how bad can it be?", and then they are stuck with the drive from hell. It's not just distance either. The roads you take are very important. Some are notorious for backups.

I mentioned Suwannee in another post. I think the zips for that area 30024, maybe part of 30097. I wouldn't venture too far down southwest if you want a more friendly feel. Beautiful area, no doubt good schools, just not so friendly ime. There's a TJ's in that area though.
