We are going to be in the market for a new sofa soon, and I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions on where to look, etc. I know i want a non-leather sectional. The best contender thus far is the pottery barn pearce in their "suede" fabric, as it is on sale in the 2500-3000 range. We have to get something below $3000. And we like the traditional/simple pottery barn type look. Also, i think i want something that has removable covers because i think that will make it easier to clean. And it will need lots of cleaning with DS. It looks like Ethan Allen and Room and Board are too expensive. Anyone have any other suggestions?

Have you looked at Mitchell Gold? At least at one point, they made some of PB's sofas. Gardenweb has good info for decent manufacturers at different price points, and they can probably tell you who actually manufactures the styles you are interested in. Often they sell under their own manufacturer name for less $$, I think.

I really liked the price point of the Pearce too. And then I went and sat on it. The seats were not very cushy/comfy IMO. Even my kids gave it a big no!

We ended up going with a local chain, I will check to see if the actual manufacturer is on the invoice.

This is the couch we got (no chaise), but we changed the fabric and upgraded the cushions to be more comfortable. We were well under $3k.

I like the looks of the BI sectional. They don't have locations anywhere near us though. I don't knOw how I feel about buying without trying in person... Do the cushion covers come off for washing?

I still need to look at Mitchell gold. Thanks so much for the leads ladies.

OK, found the invoice. It says the vendor is RO-00465. How unhelpful. I am going to try to call them and see if they can give me more info!

ETA: It's made by Rowe, the item numbers are 9258 and 9256 (for each piece of the sectional). She said if you go to any store that sells Rowe they should be able to show you those pieces. Good luck!!

ETA again: they also had a different version of the sofa, slipcovered instead of upholstered. The slipcovered had the comfy cushions, so we got those with the upholstered version of the couch. I think it was this one: http://www.bostoninteriors.com/furniture/living_room/sectional_sofas/bridgeport-2-pc-sectional.cfm

JC Penney had the fabric couch like Pottery Barn for around $1000 (may have been a little more). We almost got one and then didn't so I can't account for final quality but it looked nice and had the changeable covers.

I think Rowe has a pretty excellent reputation, so that would be a good one to check, OP.

Poke around on the gardenweb. They usually have good info on quality at different price points.

We just got a slipcovered sofa that is the Four Seasons brand:

It is great, very comfortable, washable slipcovers and the price was reasonable--I did not get a sectional, but it looks like they carry them.

Not sure where you live, but we got ours through Greenfront Furniture and got a great deal. I think they do ship nationally however and have locations in VA and NC.

Good luck! Sofa shopping is both fun and stressful!

I love the look of this one. So, with your upholstered version, can you unzip the cushion covers for washing? Im excited about Rowe. We have a store about an hour from us so i hope to get there soon. Sadly none of theirs appear to be on sale. Anyhow.

I didnt realize how many options there are. I do not do well with tons of choices! Now, i may have to consider the slip cover route. I was just worried these would slide all over the place, thus being more hassle. I have alot of work to do. :)

Thanks ladies.
