My DS should be here in 4-6 weeks and I'm trying to get everything ready. Ive done alot of research about baby body wash and shampoo, but I wanted some feedback of what moms are using and why they like it and if there is any particular brand that mom's didn't like. I would like to be as natural and fragrance free as possible at least in the newborn stages.

Thanks so much!!!

I have been very happy with Aveeno Lightly Scented Baby Wash (light blue bottle). I get it at Costco in two big bottles for less than $15. I don't detect a scent in it as all. It rates as a 2 IIRC on the EWG site.

A lot of people use California Baby Baby Wash, but I can't stand that stuff. Yes! To Carrots is a bit better IMHO, but overall I much prefer the Aveeno.

My kids have eczema and were prone to diaper rash and for a time when DD1's rash was really bad the dr. recommended Cetaphil Cleanser and it worked well too.

We used CA Baby for DS1, but they have since reformulated all of their products and we don't use them anymore. Now we use Dr. Bronner's castille soap, either the Baby version that is unscented or the Peppermint version. We use the Dr. Bronner's for everything around the house and carry a bottle of it while we're out and about for washing hands at restaurants. That is what we'll use for DS2 when he arrives as well.

Dr. Bronner or Avalon Organics. I usually buy at vitacost after receiving that tip here on BBB.

I have been happy with any organic, natural, scent free baby wash, such as Little Twig, Yes to Carrots and Burt's Bees. I used to use California Baby but they changed the formulation, as a PP mentioned.

Dr Bronner Baby Mild. Mild, works great and if you use a foaming dispenser (water it down, soap:water 1:5) it lasts forever!

I make my own soap and plan to try a baby soap recipe. Has anyone else made any?

Burt's Bees here. We've used both the fragrance-free (white color) and the regular (yellow-color). The regular one definitely foams up better but the scent is a bit unique, although I did get used to it eventually. The frangrance-free formula does have a very light scent to it as well. I actually used Aveeno (with the light blue cap) when DD was a newborn and liked it a lot, but then decided to switch to something more natural.

Love, love, love Earth Mama Angel Baby's Angel Baby Body Wash (http://www.earthmamaangelbaby.com/soaps/angel-baby-shampoo-and-body-wash.html)! Smells like orange PEZ! ;) The foam dispenser is KEY for instant lather because most sulfate-free soaps fall flat in the bubble department. One bottle lasts a long time because you don't need much at each bath; DD only needed one pump of soap for the first several months. Even at 16 mo, I think I use 3 pumps at most.

If you want to go the more natural, unscented route, they also have a Non-Scents (http://www.earthmamaangelbaby.com/soaps/natural-non-scents-shampoo-and-body-wash.html) version, which Miami Valley Hospital uses (http://www.earthmamaangelbaby.com/mama-resources/reading-room/update-miami-valley-hospital-goes-green-with-earth-mama-angel-baby) on all newborns and NICU babies.

Friend them on Facebook for their Friday specials. Shipping is free on orders of over $49 or a flat rate of $5.95, if it's less. You can also use their Store Finder page (http://www.earthmamaangelbaby.com/store-finder) to find a local retailer.

I also highly recommend the Happy Mama Body Wash (http://www.earthmamaangelbaby.com/soaps/happy-mama-hand-to-toe-wash.html), Angel Baby Bottom Balm (http://www.earthmamaangelbaby.com/angel-baby/angel-baby-bottom-balm.html) (cloth-diaper safe!), and Nipple Butter (http://www.earthmamaangelbaby.com/breastfeeding-support/natural-nipple-butter.html) (lanolin-free and smells like *chocolate!*).

:yeahthat:

haven't done the dispenser but get the big 32oz bottle and I swear it lasts almost a year. you don't need much and you wouldn't be bathing nightly for awhile for some time anyway.

super mild, free of nasties, and a great company

I've used several-all after thorough researching on safemama, ewg, and available reviews
Nature's Baby- amazon is the best price and this stuff seriously lasts forever
http://www.amazon.com/Natures-Baby-Organics-Tangerine-16-Ounce/dp/B002WC8E7U/ref=sr_1_1?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1346180781&sr=1-1&keywords=natures+baby+shampoo

Babo Botanicals- I've used both the sport for sunscreen and chlorine removal, and the detangling shampoo/wash (not that you'll be needing either soon, but fyi anyway) they are pricey but I got mine with a plum district voucher and I think ecomom sells it also and there are plum vouchers all the time for them. btw- really love their calendula lotion on my newborn- has the best silky smooth texture and not greasy at all.

Little Twig- not sure I love them as much as the above- we go through it much quicker for some reason.

California Baby for DD2's cradle cap- the pedi recommended Head and shoulders which is what we did for DD1 before I knew much about how toxic some common ingredients are for small kiddos due to their thinner skin. It seems to work and at 4 months we've barely used any of the bottle- which is good because it is a small one. I think I've seen it at target.

99% of the time I can find the best deal on drugstore.com, vitacost.com, or amazon.

Burt's Bees or Aveeno, but my DD1 who gets a little eczema does much better with the Aveeno.

Just want to add that DD2 had a horrible case of cradle cap for the first two months of her life (would try and brush it away, and it would come back) so our hairdresser suggested olive oil. It worked like a charm and it went away and never came back.

We use Aveeno, the oatmealy one for bath and the clear one for hair. I don't know if you're a first time mom, but I'll share some wisdom I learned the hard way. With DS, I washed him every day, and I washed his hair, too. I was using Johnson & Johnson, I think, and I dried that poor baby out to such an extent that he needed prescription cream! His cradle cap was AWFUL!!! Even olive oil didn't do the trick, because I kept washing him. I just thought that's what I was supposed to do. I switched to the Aveeno, but kept washing away!!! Finally, the doctor realized I was over cleansing my poor little guy! He told me just to use water most of the time and some soap on his bottom or if he was really dirty. Very soon he was healed, poor fellow! With DD, I wash her two or three times a week, not every day, unless she's dirty. I use water with a little mild Aveeno on her bottom. I wash her hair only once or twice a week. (She's just turned 5 months old.) She has had a tiny bit of cradle cap that olive oil cured and no dry skin! I share all this just in case you're prone to be an over-washer like me!

We use Burt's Bees Fragrance Free. It smells a little like plain oatmeal, but doesn't leave a lingering scent - I am OK with this. We do not bathe daily unless necessary (poo blowout, epic mudfest, super-sweaties, etc.)

Johnson & Johnson's makes me sick to my stomach and I am suspicious of their quality control practices after all their recalls and bad press.

Since I'm VERY sensitive to scents, if there's any hint of a fragrance, I tend to get headaches, trouble breathing (tightness in chest), itchy throat & sneezing or a combination of all 3. (It's worse when we visit my mom because it exacerbates my stepfather's anxiety and often triggers physical symptoms - trouble breathing, GI issues, etc.- as well.)

It's only recently that I've used anything remotely scented on DD and I only use citrus soap/bodywash on myself.

We've had pretty good luck with "Honey I Washed the Kids" soap (http://www.lushusa.com/Honey-I-Washed-The-Kids-Soap/00482,en_US,pd.html?start=3&cgid=soap) from LUSH Cosmetics and Rubber Duck soap by Primal Elements (http://www.bathtimecapemay.com/store/24-primal-elements-sliced-soaps?n=50&id_category=24) but both types are fairly gentle.

Incidentally, I also turned to LUSH when DD managed to get diaper cream in her hair - Squeaky Green took it right out! (http://www.lushusa.com/Squeaky-Green/02736,en_US,pd.html?start=11&cgid=solid-shampoos)

Our guy has eczema (much worse when he was newb-6mo) and our doula and pediatrician recommended Dove soap. Just the plain white bar :-)

We also use Aveeno and occasionally Cetaphil.
