Well, thanks to the Toy Story movies, Liam really really wants one of these. DH and I are considering getting him one from Ebay but I can't remember if you need cartridges for it (like a Leapster) or if it's an all-in-one thing.

Anyone have one as a kid and remember?

I don't think it requires a cartridge, just batteries. I want one, too. My sister and I had a ball with ours, and I think even at 12 my son would enjoy it!

I remember having so much fun with it, too! He is THE hardest kid to shop for and always wants something really really strange (last year, he really wanted a joystick!). A Speak and Spell seams feasible to me for a change.

We loved ours! We also had a math one. No cartridges just batteries. :)

I hope you find one! I loved mine. As others have said, it only needs batteries.

I think mine (in the 80s) used 4 D-cell batteries. If I can find it at my mom's house, I'll PM you!

Yeah, I loved my math one! Was the speak and spell red & yellow, and the math one grey and blue?

I loved mine, until my little brother literally plucked OFF all of the buttons on my S&S!!!! I was so pissed, esp when several yrs later, my parents bought him one of his own, but it was the newer one with the membrane style keyboard. Too bad my mom got rid of it, my kids would probably like it, and no, there were no cartridges involved. Man, back then, this was high tech stuff!

Oh, I loved that speak and spell! I credit it for helping me become a good speller! And my bff had one and we'd write letters to each other in a code created by the SAS. I don't remember that it needed cartridges, just batteries.

I was *just* thinking about mine the other day and wishing I could buy one for my kids! Maybe a retailer out there is reading the BBB and will develop a plan to bring it back!

It's a universal app and will work on iPad as well. If you scroll though the screenshots it shows the iPad version.
